Is Vex a Girl? Yes – Here‘s the Inside Scoop on League‘s New Female Yordle Champion

As a long-time League of Legends player and content creator, one of the most common questions I‘ve been getting recently is "Is Vex a girl?" So let‘s dive into the details and get the full scoop on the new gloomy yordle mage!

Vex‘s Origins & Lore

According to the official League universe site, Vex hails from the whimsical realm of Bandle City – home to the yordle race of small, furry creatures full of cheerful energy. But growing up amongst the bright colors and positivity, Vex felt like an outsider.

While other yordles played and celebrated together, she preferred sulking alone in her dark room. The perpetual joy and enthusiasm of her peers was like a torment to Vex‘s gloomy soul.

"The whimsy and color of the yordle realm was cloying to her."

So when Vex realized that she was cursed to exist as a yordle, surrounded by happiness she‘ll never feel, a plan began forming in her mind:

"She nearly smiled as she realized it just might be the solution to this torture."

Vex set out on a mission to destroy all contentment in the world, believing that snuffing out others‘ joy is the only way she‘ll find peace for herself. This path led her to initially side with Viego during the Ruination event, before his focus on reviving his own happy ending made her turn away.

Now, Vex roams Runeterra with her shadowy companion Gloom causing misery to all in her wake.

Vex‘s Gameplay Design & Abilities

As League‘s newest mid lane mage champion since Lillia‘s release over 2 years ago, Vex brings an impactful and dynamic dark magic kit to Summoner‘s Rift:

  • Her passive Doom ‘n Gloom allows Vex to temporarily absorb and utilize enemy magic shields – adding a unique counter-shield mechanic
  • Gloom Dart (Q) shoots out Vex‘s shadow companion to damage the first enemy struck
  • Personal Space (W) horrifies nearby enemies, damaging and slowing those close to Vex
  • Looming Darkness (E) is a conditional dash that also empowers Vex‘s next attack
  • Shadow Surge (R) sends Gloom out in front of Vex to fear all struck enemies in a direction while dealing heavy damage

This combination allows skilled Vex players to dance in and out of skirmishes, using Gloom to startle opponents as Vex unleashes powerful shadow magic from range or up close.

According to op.gg statistics from over 5700 Vex games analyzed so far, she‘s proving to be a force with a win rate steadily climbing to over 51%:

StatValue
Win Rate51.84%
Pick Rate7.12%
Ban Rate1.8%

If these trends continue, I expect to see her become a popular pick amongst mage players – bringing the gloom to bot lane duos and striking fear into assassins who dare hunt her!

So Is Vex a Girl?

YES – Vex is 100% a female yordle champion! She‘s voiced by actress Erika Ishii, bringing the brooding mage to life fantastically in-game.

Not only is Vex the first new yordle since Kled‘s release over 5 years ago, but she‘s the first female yordled since 2012‘s Lulu – a nearly 10 year gap!

Her dark design and vengeful personality feel uniquely fresh amongst League‘s roster. And as a gloomy gamer girl myself, I adore the representation she brings for us shadowy souls. 🖤

Though petite, Vex‘s wrath is mighty, and I can‘t wait to see more players embracing her power. For my fellow female players and content creators – Vex is one of us! So say goodbye to sunshine as her wave of darkness takes over Solo Queue.
