Is Warzone still 200gb?
As an avid Call of Duty player and gaming guide creator, one of the most common questions I see is "Is Warzone‘s file size still 200GB?". The short answer is no – through optimization and compression tech, the developers have significantly reduced the battle royale‘s footprint.
Exact File Sizes by Platform
Here are the approximate Warzone 2.0 install sizes as of 2023:
Platform | Install Size |
PlayStation 5 | 65.5 GB |
PlayStation 4 | 55.7 GB |
Xbox Series X/S | 62.0 GB |
Xbox One | 70.0 GB |
PC | 24 GB |
As expected, there is significant file size variation across platforms. PlayStation and Xbox installs require much more storage than the more optimized PC version.
Why Warzone 2.0 is Smaller
Based on my analysis of patch notes and engine upgrades, there are a few key technical reasons contributing to the reduced footprint:
- Streamlined game assets and removal of unneeded legacy content
- Improved texture and audio compression formats
- Overall optimizations to the engine and content packing
Maintaining Warzone‘s hallmark visual fidelity while enhancing performance for next-gen consoles also required more efficient use of storage. The days of 200GB installs are behind us.
Combined with Modern Warfare 2
However, many players have both Warzone 2.0 and Modern Warfare 2 installed. This significantly increases the total storage requirement:
Platform | Combined Install Size |
PC | 124 GB |
PlayStation 5 | 165.5 GB |
Xbox Series X/S | 162 GB |
So while not 200GB anymore, having both games installed takes up considerable SSD real estate. Some external storage may be necessary if you‘re short on built-in space.
