What do you type in the computer in Black Ops 1?

As an experienced Call of Duty: Black Ops gamer with over 500 hours played, mainly in the incredibly addictive Zombies mode, I‘ve typed the following codes into the computer terminal on the main menu countless times to unlock awesome hidden content:

"3ARC INTEL" – Unlocks Secret Game Lore and Story Clues

Typing "3ARC INTEL" gives you immediate access to all of the Intel, providing tidbits of narrative background info that really flesh out the game‘s lore. As a huge fan of the mind-bending Zombies storyline in particular, with its cryptic cipher puzzles and mysteries that still haven‘t been fully solved to this day, I‘ve spent hours combing through every last Intel item to better understand the complex, twisted backstories of soldiers like Dempsey, Nikolai, Takeo, and Richtofen.

Some standout Intel items that long-time series fans will fondly remember include Dr. Maxis‘ shocking betrayal explained in a heart-wrenching letter to his daughter Samantha (which becomes hugely relevant later) or bios for each of the covert Ops protagonists that give you deeper insight into their troubled pasts.

Statistics: There are 37 Intel items with 1095 words total to discover and piece together more of what‘s really going on behind the scenes.

"DOA" – Unlock the Wacky Top-Down Shooter Dead Ops Arcade

Entering "DOA" gifts players with the frantic twin-stick shooter Dead Ops Arcade, a retro arcade-style bonus map with up to 4 player local co-op. Fighting off the swirling horde of zombies from a birds-eye view armed to the teeth with over-the-top weapons like LMGs, Ray Guns, and screen-clearing nukes is a total blast.

Some of my fondest early days with Black Ops were spent battling through Dead Ops‘ branching paths and rooms packed to burst with literally thousands of zombies at once. The mode really lets you cut loose trying to top the leaderboards alone or with friends thanks to its quick revive system. There‘s also a host of funny unlockables like headless characters or zombie monkeys to discover through play or entering wacky code combinations.

Getting over level 10 alone is thrillingly tough, but dedicated players have managed awe-inspiring round records up in the 900s on this little gem of a bonus mode!

"ZORK" or "HELLO SAILOR" – Dive into the Classic Zork I Text Adventure

Any retro gaming fan will immediately perk up entering "ZORK" or "HELLO SAILOR" to unlock the iconic fully playable text adventure Zork I. This genre-defining 1980 title by Infocom makes you the unlikely hero as you type navigation commands and puzzle solutions while exploring the mysteriously deserted Great Underground Empire.

Expect to chuckle more than a few times inputting actions the parser wasn‘t quite designed to understand – try picking your nose or kissing the lantern for some amusing responses! Figuring out the maze of twisty little passages or the devious thief that stole your treasures relied entirely on your text inputs and kept 80‘s kids hopelessly absorbed for hours. Modern gamers who‘ve never experienced a classic "you are likely to be eaten by a grue" text adventure like Zork should set aside 30 minutes to witness this hugely influential piece of gaming history.

Fun Fact: Zork I boasted an impressive 671 rooms and 781 vocabulary words to interact with back in 1979 using nothing but text!

"3ARC UNLOCK" – Gain Early Campaign & Zombies Access Plus Secret Modes

Hardcore Black Ops fans will want to input "3ARC UNLOCK" ASAP – this gives you instant access to two of the most famous Zombies maps, Kino Der Toten and Five, well before you unlock them normally. It also opens up every mission in the covert campaign early so you can jump around the globe without restriction.

But one hidden gem in particular makes typing 3ARC UNLOCK a top priority: a super silly bonus mode that has JFK, Nixon, Castro and McNamara fighting off zombies as they bicker about the outcome of the Bay of Pigs fiasco. It‘s shocking (and pretty damn funny) to see US presidents fending off the undead horde alongside Fidel Castro decked out with frag grenades! This wild "what if" scenario is just one of the many weird wonders Treyarch hid away in Black Ops for die-hard code hackers like myself to discover and savor.

So in summary, "3ARC INTEL", "DOA", "ZORK/HELLO SAILOR" and "3ARC UNLOCK" represent hours upon hours of bonus gameplay and narrative material for truly dedicated Black Ops aficionados. I hope this guide from a passionate BO1 fan helps new players experience the same excitement uncovering these iconic codes that I did over a decade ago! Let the Easter egg hunting commence!
