What happened to Ada Wong?
As an ardent Resident Evil gamer who has followed the series and lore for decades now, I was thrilled that legendary femme fatale Ada Wong made her long-awaited return in the recent Resident Evil 4 remake. Ada remains one of the most popular yet mysterious characters in survival horror gaming history – fans just can‘t get enough of her style, cunning, and moral ambiguity!
But what has Ada been up to since her breakout role in 1998‘s genre-defining Resident Evil 2? Let‘s recap her winding story up to the present day. Spoilers ahead obviously!
Surviving the Raccoon City Nightmare
Somehow, despite being attacked by the unrelenting Tyrant monster in Umbrella‘s secret underground NEST facility, Ada managed to escape and get rescued before Raccoon City was nuked by the government. I can only imagine the trauma and chaos she experienced down in that lab!
Fans have speculated that maybe Ada already had an extraction plan in place. Given her career as a corporate spy and agent provocateur, she seems like the type to always have a backup plan.
According to one plausible Reddit theory, Ada secretly kept in touch with a private military group she was affiliated with, who picked her up in a helicopter amidst the citywide outbreak.
So despite seemingly impossible odds, Ada survived yet again – a testament to her skill and situational awareness when everything goes to hell!
Helping Cultivate Las Plagas
In Resident Evil 4, Ada makes contact with Leon S. Kennedy again – now a US special agent tasked with rescuing the President‘s daughter from a mysterious Spanish cult.
Ada has infiltrated the Los Illuminados cult in rural Europe, which is using mind-controlling Las Plagas parasites to create obedient followers. She‘s pursuing samples of the unique new virus for none other than series supervillain Albert Wesker!

Wesker is intrigued by this mysterious new pathogen and, in classic villain fashion, wants samples for his own diabolical bio-weapons research. So just another day on the job for globe-trotting superspy Ada!
She dresses the part too in RE4 with a chic emerald green cocktail dress – allowing her to blend into fancy environments as needed. Ever style-conscious!
Battling Her Clone in Simulated Cities
Ada has a rather trippy experience in Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles battling various bio-organic weapons across simulated city environments. Oh and also fighting her evil duplicate – because why not!
The game explains this is a digital recreation made from Ada‘s memories about past events, almost like she‘s trapped in the training simulator from The Matrix. Wild stuff!
So yeah – in classic Resident Evil fashion, Ada faces off against creepy mutant animals, zombies, and her own villainous clone! Par for the course at this point in her long career getting mixed up these outbreaks.
Causing Widespread Chaos Globally
In the huge, Michael Bay-esque setpieces of Resident Evil 6, we learn about Ada‘s involvement in yet another horrific outbreak – the global C-Virus pandemic!
Teaming up with classic series villain Albert Wesker really opened up Ada‘s opportunities to get up to no good it seems. This worldwide contagion spawned all sorts of awful mutated creatures and turned loads of people into zombies. Not great!
Ada‘s morally questionable allies give her access to all sorts of deadly weaponized diseases to unleash. And yet she remains such an intriguing and alluring character that fans can‘t help but kind of root for Ada anyways!
Her Special Relationship with Leon Kennedy
While Ada dabbles in bringing about viral apocalypses for shady crime syndicates, one anchor keeping her remotely grounded is Leon S. Kennedy. These two share an undeniable bond ever since fighting to escape Raccoon City together as naive twenty-somethings.
Leon has regularly had Ada‘s back too – he often lets her escape from authorities or messy outbreak zones when he probably shouldn‘t. Dude is clearly still sweet on Ms Wong years later!
And despite Ada‘s normally cool, calm exterior as she goes about her dirty business – she does seem to have a soft spot for Leon that keeps bringing them back together. That kernel of humanity makes her character so fascinating!
What Does the Future Hold for Ada?
So what comes next for the Resident Evil saga‘s most torque femme fatale? The latest RE4 remake once again featured Ada pursuing sample of Las Plagas and working alongside Leon Kennedy – so this special relationship seems destined to continue playing out for years to come!
Maybe someday Ms. Wong will reunite with Albert Wesker too if the sly villain somehow cheated death once again. Though after the wild events of Resident Evil Village featuring bio-weapons legend Chris Redfield, anything is possible at this point!
In any case, Ada Wong remains one of gaming‘s most compelling and badass antagonists. I know I‘ll be excited to watch her story continue unfolding across whatever scary viral outbreak comes next!
