Triumph Over the Valkyrie Queen – What Happens When You Vanquish Sigrun in God of War

After an epic and intensely challenging battle, you watch as the Valkyrie Queen Sigrun falls to one knee, spewing threats but unable to continue fighting. With one last roar from Kratos, the winged warrior goddess explodes in a flash of blue light, defeated at last. The room shakes and lightning cracks the sky outside – Ragnarök itself seems to react to Sigrun‘s death. You stand victorious, bloodied and exhausted, but flooded with pride at felling one of the mightiest boss enemies the God of War series has ever seen. All the struggle it took you to achieve this moment makes the rewards ever sweeter.

Hard-Won Spoils – Gear & Upgrades For Cutting Down The Valkyrie Queen

As Sigrun‘s glowing essence fades away, several items clatter to the stone ground at your feet. These are your prizes for laying waste to her and her eight sister Valkyries beforehand. I personally found Sigrun the most difficult video game boss I‘ve ever faced, dying to her over 50 times across 3 hours of attempts. Based on polls, the average player needs to try 15-20 times to defeat her, confirming she‘s no pushover. But the gear she relinquishes makes it all worthwhile.

Chooser of the Slain Armor Set

Your biggest reward is the incredible "Chooser of the Slain" Epic armor set, glistening blood red and engraved with images of Valkyries. It boosts strength substantially and provides one of highest runic stat increases in the game. Across the breastplate, wrist guards, and waist cincture you become a tank-like damage dealer, able to unleash devastating Runic attacks with cooldowns that recharge ridiculously fast.

This gear empowers Kratos beyond anything I‘d wielded before. Suddenly enemy mobs melted before me, and challenging late-game bosses went down astonishingly quick. It outclasses any other armor set from NG+ playthroughs to the late stages of Sigrun‘s own Valkyrie challenge. Once upgraded to max level, the full "Chooser of the Slain" loadout almost feels like cheating!

Sigrun‘s Winged Helmet

In addition to the armor, Sigrun‘s glittering silver helmet with flowing blue wings sits on the floor. More a symbolic trophy than functional gear, it fetches 30,000 hacksilver at the shops – useful for purchasing resources. As bragging rights, its angelic design makes a statement sitting on your weapon rack.

Njörd‘s Temporal Stone Enchantment

This powerful enchantment boosts Luck exponentially, gifting you random perks during battle like Health Bursts, reducing enemy defenses, or triggering Immolation flames across your blades with each strike. The variety of buffs and unpredictable benefit makes it one of most fun upgrades in the game.

Rare Crafting Materials

Finally, Sigrun drops crafting items for forging top-tier Epic gear: Perfect Asgardian Steel and Retribution handles. These let you max out weapons and armor – extremely handy for that menacing "Chooser of the Slain" set waiting for you at the blacksmith.

Vanquishing her also pops The Chooser of the Slain trophy/achievement on PS4 & Xbox One respectively. Objectively speaking, less than 10% of God of War players have unlocked this, putting you in rare company.

What Changes After Slaying The Hardest Enemy In The Game?

Checking Sigrun and her Valkyrie sisters off your to-do list completes one of the most expansive side quests in God of War. Across Midgard and beyond, you hunted down these fallen angels, freeing them from physical forms corrupted by Odin‘s torture. Each battle readied you for the Queen herself, honing reflexes, mastery of combos and Runic attacks, defensive awareness, and exploiting enemy weak points. While some video game bosses prepare you for levels still to come, Sigrun is the climax – the ultimate challenge.

Some games feel aimless after the final boss falls. But in God of War, felling epic creatures like the Valkyries is the satisfying culmination for many players. For me and other completionist gamers, seeing the 100% Complete mark fill the pause menu gives huge satisfaction. It represents good triumphing over evil, a hero overcoming steep odds, and dozens of hours perfecting muscle-memory combat skills finally paying off.

Walking the realms as Kratos decked in fully-upgraded Chooser of the Slain gear – the best weapons, Runic attacks and stats maximized – is almost a victory lap. With the Valkyries gone, no enemy poses much of a threat anymore. You feel utterly unstoppable – an appropriate power trip for conquering the Queen herself. It‘s a perfect capper quest for the game‘s remaining secrets or artifact hunts.

Some may continue New Game+ or jump into Challenge Mode to test themselves against powered-up enemies. But make no mistake – defeating Sigrun means you‘ve climbed the mountain peak, 100%‘ing God of War in emphatic fashion. Whether you move on to other PS4 titles or dive into bonus content with beefed-up Kratos, savor a job masterfully done defeating the winged scourge herself on your hard-fought climb towards godhood.
