Breaking Down the Face Off Map Duo

A highlight is receiving not just one, but two new close-quarters Face Off locales perfect for 2v2 and 3v3 skirmishes.

Overlook

Set in a coastal Spanish town, Overlook funnels nonstop action through tight streets, apartments, and plazas. Surprises like destructible walls intensify moment-to-moment combat across the three lanes. My loadout tip? Bring a nimble SMG to swiftly flank enemies.

Based on initial matches, Overlook is on track to become a fan-favorite Face Off battleground thanks to the balance of confined spaces and some longer sightlines to take advantage of. Approach this one carefully and always be checking those corners!

Getaway

Getaway transports us to a remote forest valley in Slovenia with a criminal hideout theme. Winding trails through wood buildings, bridges, and a river gorge keep this map’s pacing dynamic.
An escape tunnel cuts straight through the stage as a high risk, high reward avenue to infiltrate or sneak up on foes.

Getaway has delivered seriously intense games in testing. Marksman and sniper rifles thrive off lane sightlines, while submachine guns and shotguns are lethal clearing out the CQB underground route. Expect extremely close matchups here!

Spec Ops Goals: Operation Iron Clad & Operation Kill Switch

Special Ops fans have two fresh cooperative challenges to take on: Operation Iron Clad set in Pakistan and Operation Kill Switch within a Mexican cartel mansion.

Operation Iron Clad

This demanding three-stage mission tasks us with infiltrating and gathering intel from a heavily defended Pakistani trainyard. Coordination and team shooting will be mandatory to pushing through forces while avoiding killstreak vehicles and attack choppers. Luckily we have the cover of night on our side.

Based on initial impressions, Operation Iron Clad may be one of the toughest Spec Ops objectives yet. I highly encourage loadouts with cold blooded, overkill, and munitions for equipment/killstreak destruction to achieve victory.

Operation Kill Switch

Operation Kill Switch places players within a well-guarded cartel mansion in Mexico with a two-phase objective: secretly breach the perimeter to hack comms gear with laptop uplinks followed by fighting our way to an extraction helicopter.

The confined nature of this mission leads to extremely heavy combat pressure. An engineer role to lockdown areas with deployable cover or trophy systems is highly recommended.

Overall, Kill Switch delivers a unique urban battleground to test Spec Ops abilities unlike anything currently available. Both of these new story experiences should give players a hardcore challenge with meaningful replay value!

Oasis Multiplayer Map Deep Dive

Lastly, the fan-favorite map Oasis from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 returns with a visual overhaul retaining the core memorable design. Set within colorful ruins, temples, caves, and watering holes of an exotic unspecified location, Oasis shines as a richly detailed sandbox-style stage catering to all styles.

Vantage points in the central temple gaze upon flanking routes making nearly every weapon viable. In many ways, Oasis represents an archetypal Call of Duty map leveraging height variation, intelligent symmetry, and interactable elements for endless attack possibilities.

Let‘s dig into key zones utilizing images straight from my matches:

Oasis Map Callouts

  • The “Street” lane features a long sightline between buildings – effective for marksmen. Up close, a maze of tight spaces hold close quarters potential
  • Waterfall cave for stealthy navigation from the flank through water to center map
  • Temple offers a power position over the crumbled ruins below to lock down open areas
  • Stairs/Ladders in the Market give access high ground shops – beware attackers!
  • Sneaky underwater paths by Pool let stealthier operators secretly reposition

In dozens of matches so far, Oasis has been a dynamic joy playing Objective modes like Hardpoint thanks to the freedom of approach built into the intricate geometry. All unit types can thrive with smart positioning. Overall an impressive remake faithful to what made the original great!

Bottom Line: Pack 5 Delivers Must-Have Content

For $14.99 or 1,500 COD points, MW2’s Content Pack 5 is packed with stellar maps and modes that meaningfully expand Multiplayer, Spec Ops, and Face Off. Overlook and Getaway raise the close quarters gameplay bar; Oasis offers unmatched flexibility. Meanwhile, Iron Clad and Kill Switch provide some of the most challenging co-op yet.

In my opinion as dedicated series fan, Pack 5 is easily among the most compelling content releases for Modern Warfare II yet. The maps alone offer endless replay value. Combined with the cosmetics and blueprints also included, I highly recommend all gamers pick this one up!

Let me know your experiences with these new Pack 5 additions in the comments – what strategies are working? Which map is your favorite and why? As always, stay frosty out there in your next match!
