Mario‘s Official Birth Date: October 11

As confirmed directly from Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto in a 2005 interview, Mario‘s birthday lands on October 11. This would make Mario‘s current age around 45 years old, though he doesn‘t seem to have aged a bit!

Digging Into the Origins

Mario first jumped onto the scene in 1981 with the arcade classic Donkey Kong. Back then he was known as Jumpman, a young carpenter trying to rescue his girlfriend Pauline from the clutches of a rampaging gorilla.

After the success of Donkey Kong, Jumpman would soon take on the moniker of Mario and become the mascot of the new Nintendo Entertainment System console. The rest is video game history!

So if the 24-25 age stated by Miyamoto dates back to the early 1980s titles, it‘s safe to say Mario was likely born in 1955 or 1956. Which perfectly lines up with October 11 as the one true date for his arrival into the Mushroom Kingdom.

Celebrating Over 30 Years of Mario Magic

While I can‘t believe it‘s been over 30 years since I first took control of Mario in the original Super Mario Bros., I still get just as much joy today guiding him through new adventures.

The guy has come a long way from his humble beginnings, but has remained the lovable plucky plumber we know and love. While games have evolved by leaps and bounds with new technology, Mario continues bringing his A-game and classic charm.

Now nearing 50 years old, Mario shows no signs of slowing down. Just like Mickey Mouse and other iconic characters who transcend generations. I can‘t wait to see what new worlds and challenges await Mario after he blows out the candles on his 46th birthday cake this year!

Passing the Torch to a New Generation

With the upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie showcasing a younger Mario just finding his footing in the Mushroom Kingdom, it feels like a passing of the torch to allow a new generation of fans to fall in love with gaming‘s number one mascot.

I‘ll admit it‘s odd seeing Mario portrayed at a younger age after decades of imagining him to be around my same age. But the kid‘s got spunk and some serious hops already! I‘m looking forward to taking my niece and nephew to see the movie and watch Mario‘s origin story play out in glorious animation.

Here‘s to another 30+ years of Nintendo magic and many more October 11 birthdays for the heroic plumber from Mushroom Kingdom and beyond! Let‘s gather around some warp pipes and Superman-punch some ? blocks in Mario‘s honor!
