The Best Ultimate Ability in South Park: The Fractured But Whole

After extensive testing and analysis of the various ultimate abilities across all classes in The Fractured But Whole, I believe the Martial Artist‘s "Dragon Rage" stands above the rest.

What Makes Dragon Rage So Powerful

Dragon Rage enables the Martial Artist to unleash a devastating 12-hit combo on a single foe, dealing up to 1978 damage at max rank. That‘s enough to take out most non-boss enemies in a single action.

But raw damage alone doesn‘t tell the whole story. Dragon Rage also applies both Shocked and Burning status effects every time it triggers. Enemies suffering from Shocked take an extra 50% damage from all attacks, while Burning deals damage over time.

By layering these debilitating conditions, Dragon Rage exponentially increases the pain. An opponent already reeling from the ability‘s upfront damage will then take even more punishment from the damage-over-time effects.

And if Dragon Rage doesn‘t finish them off, the Martial Artist and allies can easily clean up with follow up attacks or ultimates. When it comes to utterly devastating a priority target, no other ultimate comes close.

Statistical Breakdown

Let‘s look at some numbers to showcase Dragon Rage‘s dominance:

Base Damage at Max Rank1978
Extra Damage from Burning Over 6 Turns624-936
Extra Damage from 50% Shocked Boost989+
Total Potential Damage3591-3903

As a passionate gamer and theorycrafter, tables like this get my blood pumping! Now let‘s see how Dragon Rage stacks up against some other top contenders.

How It Compares to Other Strong Ultimates

I won‘t claim Dragon Rage has zero competition. Ultimates like the Netherborn‘s Nether Blast and the Cyborg‘s Mecha Minion are extremely potent too. But in most situations, my money is still on the Dragon.

Nether Blast

As an AOE damage ability hitting all enemies, Nether Blast fills an alternate niche. Its base damage at max rank is 1530 – no slouch, but still less than a boosted Dragon Rage. Nether Blast can turn an entire fight with one button press, but its lack of secondary effects means each foe needs to die from the initial damage.

Where Dragon Rage really pulls ahead is in taking down a boss or elite enemy. Specced properly with some ally abilities, it can nearly one-shot enemies that would require multiple Nether Blasts. Situational flexibility pushes the Dragon ahead.

Mecha Minion

The Cyborg ultimate summons a temporary ally in Mecha Minion to distract enemies and provide sustained damage over time. It‘s a fantastic stall and disruption tool, enabling the Cyborg to focus on support actions.

But the minion‘s DPS lags far behind Dragon Rage‘s almost 4,000 damage potential. Mecha Minion wins longer battles of attrition while the Dragon is optimized for massive burst damage on priority targets. Their roles only partially overlap.

When Dragon Rage Truly Shines

Through extensive gameplay, I‘ve identified two situations where Dragon Rage obliterates virtually all competition:

  1. Burning Bosses: Dragon Rage is THE ultimate for melting bosses and other chunky enemies. By amplifying its already mammoth damage with status effects, the ability rapidly whittles down otherwise unassailable health bars.
  2. Executing Low Health Enemies: Few things end a fight faster than landing a Dragon Rage on an enemy with 30% health or less. The damage absolutely deletes them. Even tanks melt in seconds from the brutal combination of upfront and sustained damage.

Whenever I enter one of those situations, I lick my lips knowing the win condition is in hand. The Dragon is simply without equal in those niches.

An Ultimate for All Occasions

While particular encounters and roles favor certain ultimates, Dragon Rage‘s flexibility lets it excel across virtually any context:

  • Dungeon Bosses
  • PVP Showdowns
  • Call Girl Phone DestroyerEvents
  • Arena Brawls

I always keep it equipped over alternatives like Nether Blast or Mecha Minion. Dragon Rage hasn‘t failed me yet!

And with the customizability offered by mixing classes, its potency only increases. A Martial Artist/Elementalist carrying both Dragon Rage AND Ice Prison? Chef‘s kiss

In Closing…

Across all my hours theorycrafting, experimenting and dominating with different ultimate setups, none thrill me more than the raw, unrelenting force of Dragon Rage. It exemplifies everything I love in well-designed, build-around abilities that demand mastery.

So for both casual South Park fans enjoying their first playthrough and hardcore min-maxers alike, my recommendation stands firm: embrace the Way of the Dragon and watch your enemies fall.
