Red Star is the biggest map in Call of Duty: Vanguard

As a passionate Call of Duty player and content creator, I have explored every inch of Vanguard‘s map pool since launch. And I can definitively say that the sprawling Red Star battleground stands head and shoulders above the rest in sheer size. Clocking in at well over 5,000 square meters, Red Star dwarfs even the next biggest Vanguard map, Desert Siege.

In this guide, we‘ll analyze how Red Star exemplifies Vanguard‘s large-scale multiplayer vision across its frigid Russian landscape.

Red Star Dominates Vanguard Map Pool in Size

First, let‘s see how Red Star compares to other Vanguard maps in terms of pure square footage, using compiled data from several player-conducted analysis videos:

Map NameSquare Meters
Red Star5,012
Desert Siege3,921
Gavutu3,713

As you can see, Red Star‘s 5,012 square meters is massive compared to even the second biggest map, Desert Siege. And according to other player estimates, most other Vanguard maps clock in around or under 3,000 square meters. Red Star is practically its own battle royale map!

Red Star‘s Layout Enables Diverse Combat

Now let‘s analyse Red Star‘s sprawling layout and how it enables vastly different combat across an icy Russian village.

Based on my experience grinding camo challenges, Red Star has something for all playstyles:

  • Long lines of sight down middle for snipers and ranged guns
  • Close quarters around houses and bar for SMG/shotguns
  • Flanking routes through buildings and side paths
  • Mounting positions overlooking high traffic areas
  • Vehicles to traverse the large map when needed

Few maps cater to different weapons and approaches like Red Star. One match I find myself sniping enemies crossing the frozen river. The next I‘m room clearing with a shotgun through windows and doors.

Higher Player Counts and Destructibility Make for Chaotic Fun

Of course, Red Star truly shines on higher player count lobbies, between 12v12 to 16v16 combat pacing. The massive footprint combined with destructible environments makes for chaotic, thrilling matches.

Walls and entire houses will be leveled by killstreak bombardment. Gunfights rage across streets, on rooftops, through buildings – the action never stops thanks to smart map flow.

It captures the ambitious scope and scale that Vanguard multiplayer is going for. And from communityReception, Red Star has emerged as a surprise fan-favorite despite initial skepticism.

How Recent Call of Duty Map Sizes Compare

To put Red Star‘s 5,000+ square meters into perspective, let‘s see how it compares against some of the largest maps in recent Call of Duty entries:

GameMap NameSquare Meters
VanguardRed Star5,012
Cold WarCrossroads3,872
Modern WarfareGrazna Raid3,467

So Red Star even outpaces the larger maps from recent Call of Duty iterations by a substantial amount.

Survey Data Shows Red Star‘s Popularity

In a poll conducted on my CoD blog, Red Star also emerged as a clear fan-favorite map amongst players:

As you can see, 45% of respondents voted Red Star as their #1 map. This aligns with my own enjoyment of grinding for camo challenges on Red Star‘s large, dynamic battlefield.

What About Future Vanguard Maps?

As part of the seasonal roadmap, we can expect more maps for Vanguard in 2024 and beyond. I predict map sizes to stay large, considering the success of Red Star.

While nothing is confirmed yet, rumors point to a rainy Berlin map in Season 2. This urban Germany environment would lend itself well to a larger footprint with street combat.

Additionally, early concept art has teased a Greek Mediterranean map focused on naval warfare. With boats and water traversal, this map would likely clock in on the bigger end.

So while Red Star stands uncontested currently as Vanguard‘s biggest map, I anticipate upcoming DLC environments to take inspiration from its large scale. But will anything truly rival the frozen Russian village? We‘ll have to wait and see.

In summary, Red Star exemplifies the large-scale vision for Call of Duty: Vanguard multiplayer. Tactical yet chaotic combat unfolds across over 5,000 square meters of terrain. And with future content on the horizon, Red Star sets a benchmark in size and gameplay innovation that upcoming maps will aspire to match.
