Tighnari‘s Full Name: Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Malik al-Murri al-Tighnari al-Gharnati

Greetings, fellow gamers! Today I‘m dishing on our cute new furry friend Tighnari‘s surprisingly long full name and what it can tell us about who this brainy botonist really is under the hood.

Get your notebooks ready because Class is in session at the Sumeru Academia!

Breaking Down Tighnari‘s Lengthy Moniker

I know most Genshiners simply call him Tighnari or refer to him affectionately as “foxy boy”. But our Dendro expert‘s full name is actually Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Malik al-Murri al-Tighnari al-Gharnati.

That‘s a whopping 4 different name parts tied together! Let me break those down for you:

  • Abu Abdullah: His first name means "Father of Abdullah" in Arabic. It was common for scholars to use Abu (Father) in their names.
  • Muhammed: Simply the famous prophet Muhammad‘s name. Very common Arabic male name.
  • ibn Malik: Translates to "son of Malik". Denotes his lineage.
  • al-Murri: Could reference the Murri tribe or clan name. Adds more ancestral detail.
  • al-Tighnari: Means "from Tignar", tying back to his familial roots.
  • al-Gharnati: Marks that he came from Gharnata – the Arabic name for Grenada in Spain!

Whew! As you can see, Tighnari‘s full name gives us a peek into his potential ancestors in the al-Murri tribe of Gharnata. Pretty cool!

But wait – there‘s more!

Connections to Historic Scholar with Same Name

As it turns out, Tighnari‘s lengthy label links him to a real life historic figure – an eminent Andalusian polymath by the name of Abu Abdullah Muhammad al-Tighnari from the 1100s. Well tickle my berries!

This OG al-Tighnari was an accomplished botanist, agriculturist, pharmacist, poet and traveller of Amazigh (Berber) descent. How‘s THAT for sharing some fields of study with our foxy boy?!

I told you it lines up nicely! Of course, we still need to take this amazing connection with a grain of salt since Tighnari is a fictional game character.

But I still say this can‘t be sheer coincidence…can it? strokes non-existent beard

Either way, knowing his full name provides us die-hard fans some tasty tidbits to chew on regarding darling Tighnari‘s origins and nature. Let the fan theories commence!

What‘s Behind the Name from a Game Design Perspective?

Stepping into my game dev hat for a bit, I believe HoYoverse carefully chose such a traditional sounding Arabic name to underscore scholarly Tighnari‘s roots in the region that inspired Sumeru.

As many fans have noted, Sumeru draws heavily from South Asian and Middle Eastern cultures for its imagery and lore. So Tighnari being our resident brainy expert appointed to introduce players to Sumeru, he needed a suitably region-appropriate name to match.

His appellation hits marks for fitting into Arabic scholarly naming conventions while also nodding to real-world parallels like the OG al-Tighnari polymath. Killing two Ruin Guards with one Elemental Skill!

Of course, HoYoverse could have gone WAY simpler with his name. But I for one love that extra depth and flair a multi-part appellation like his brings. Don‘t you? Let your fellow Tighnari stans know in the comments!

So in summary, our foxy scholar‘s full handle highlights his ancestral ties to Gharnata, alignment with Arabic academic traditions, connections to real-world inspirations, and foundations in Sumeru‘s regional lore.

And for me? I gotta say, I‘m 100% here for ALL of Tighnari‘s many names!
