Demystifying the Legends Storyteller in Ghost of Tsushima

If you‘ve played the enormously popular open-world samurai game Ghost of Tsushima, chances are you‘ve stumbled across various peculiar characters marked on your map as "Gyozen the Storyteller." And if you‘re anything like me, you probably wondered, "Who exactly is this Gyozen guy and why does he have so many eerie stories to tell?" Well, wander no more my friends! I‘m here to pull back the curtain on Gyozen and explain exactly how he relates to the supernatural multiplayer mode: Ghost of Tsushima Legends.

Origins: Gyozen the Mysterious Storyteller

During your journeys across Tsushima as noble samurai Jin Sakai, you can seek out a seemingly inconspicuous man named Gyozen loitering in towns and camps. Upon interacting with him, Gyozen will regale you with short anecdotes grounded in Japanese myth and fantasy.

At first, these tall tales seem disconnected from your quest. But what players soon discover is that Gyozen acts as the gatekeeper and narrator for the cooperative multiplayer mode "Legends." By approaching Gyozen and selecting the prompt "Hear Tale," you open a passage to the magical realms of Legends!

Gyozen Storyteller

So in essence, Gyozen is the key storyline device that connects the bloody Mongol invasion in Tsushima with the supernatural threats emerging in Legends. Without spoiling too much, Gyozen spins an imaginative yarn about fallen samurai rising from the dead to combat the demonic "Oni" scourge unleashed on the island.

Gyozen Narrates the Multiplayer Action

Beyond anchoring Legends‘ fiction in the world of Ghost, Gyozen also serves as your guide and narrator once inside the online multiplayer modes. Much like the Dungeon Master in D&D, Gyozen sets the scene for your band of adventuring warriors.

His eccentric voice chimes in with context during tense moments:

"The Oni have opened a portal to the Realm of the Damned! Their numbers seem endless – draw your bows!"

And when your party inevitably emerges victorious, Gyozen returns as the boisterous announcer:

“Once again the legends prevail against the dark forces! Destiny awaits on your next adventure…”

Without his colorful narration giving dramatic flair to Legends’ missions, I dare say some of the magic would be lost. So whether it’s the initial folkloric hooks reeling you in or his dynamic mid-battle commentary, Ghost’s wonderfully weird storyteller holds this multiplayer romp together.

Which brings us to the magical gameplay found inside Legends itself…

Diving Into Ghost of Tsushima: Legends

Accessible through any Gyozen across Tsushima for Jin Sakai players, Legends offers cooperative story missions, wave-based survival battles, and intense three-part raids for 2-4 players. Before each adventure, Gyozen shares a quick campfire story laden with quirky characters or foreboding situations.

After his appetizing narrative intro, you get to choose between four powerful classes:

  • Samurai – Want to charge valiantly on the frontlines with reckless sword slashes? Look no further than the "pure warrior" Samurai with massive health and area-of-effect attacks!
  • Hunter – Prefer attacking from afar with devastating Headshot streaks? This quick-firing, crit-powered Ranger archetype has you covered.
  • Ronin – Fancy supporting your squad with monster heals and clutch revives? The Ronin‘s restorative abilities make them the ultimate hybrid class.
  • Assassin – Would you rather stealthily assassinate your foes with smoke, knives, and chains? Then adopt the shadowy brutality of the Assassin!

Each class fulfills critical combat roles while offering diverse gameplay full of combos, gear to equip, and awesome Legendary-tier weapons/abilities to unlock. And I must say after 100 hours playing Legends, I‘m STILL discovering wild new build strategies and viable tactics across every mode.

Legends Classes

While completely optional, Legends loot progression and cosmetics sync back to your singleplayer game too. So you truly feel like the legendary warrior Gyozen portrays!

Ultimately with incredibly fun combat, four unique classes, and Gyozen as DM spinning an endless web of eastern lore – Ghost of Tsushima Legends provides an infinitely replayable co-op experience worth revisiting again and again.

The Storyteller‘s Future Tales

Looking ahead, many fans including myself hope Sucker Punch expands this addictive multiplayer mode throughout 2023. Rumblings across Reddit and gaming forums suggest Legends could see a new map, enemies faction (Goblins?), and even additional classes. I would personally love to see that!

After all, our eccentric buddy Gyozen likely has countless more supernatural legends tucked away up those tattered sleeves. And I for one can‘t wait to help bring his next eerie epic to life in Tsushima‘s gorgeous landscapes! But for now, we eagerly await whatever grandstory—or perhaps raid—Gyozen narrates next. Luckily a recent PlayStation job listing indicates they are expanding the Legends team for future content!

So in summary, hopefully this article shed some light on the origins of Gyozen the Storyteller and why he serves as the lynchpin holding together Ghost of Tsushima‘s compelling singleplayer experience with its wondrous multiplayer offshoot! If anyone needs me, I‘ll be patrolling Tsushima gathering flowers to garnish my Hunter‘s armor…
