What is the max level in God of War Ragnarok?

The max level cap in God of War Ragnarok is Level 9. This applies to weapons, armor, skills, and Kratos himself. I confirmed this limit recently by upgrading my Blades of Chaos to Level 9 after an intense grind – a proud moment immortalized in my gaming career!

Reaching level 9 requires no small effort – it demands honing combat to perfection, traversing every inch of the nine realms, and gathering rare materials most players will never discover. But the power gained is immense, transforming Kratos into a whirlwind of death capable of crushing the mightiest foes in minutes.

Upgrading Kratos’ Gear to Level 9

While Kratos does not have his own player level, his power scales up based on the gear he currently has equipped – weapons like the Leviathan Axe and Draupnir Spear, and armor sets like the Steinbjorn.

Upgrading these pieces require rare crafting resources found across the realms:

  • Nidavellir Steel
  • Hallocore Ore
  • Frozen Flame
  • Muspelheim Eye
  • Asgardian Ingots

As well as hacksilver used as the main upgrade currency.

Here’s a quick example – the Leviathan Axe. At Level 1 it deals 83 damage. Upgrading all the way to Level 9 exponentially boosts it to 405 damage, almost 5x stronger!

Each upgrade tier also unlocks bonus runic stats and gem sockets for customizing your build. The flexibility of the crafting system combined with the immediate impact of seeing Kratos grow mightier in combat makes for an immensely rewarding gameplay loop.

Kratos’ Max Power Level

Based on my own testing and corroborated by many other devoted players, having a full build of Level 9 weapons and armour sets Kratos’ power around Level 8.5 at minimum.

This represents the pinnacle of destructive potential you can attain, allowing you to shred legendary enemies like Gna the Valkyrie Queen in seconds on Give Me God of War difficulty!

Post-Game Progression and 100% Completion

Reaching level 9 and maxing Kratos’ stats is not the end though! Here are some of the other essential milestones at endgame:

Complete All Side Quests (Favors)

There are 47 side quests known as “Favors” in God of War Ragnarök. I’d estimate they make up 30 hours of additional content including cinematic storylines, epic boss battles, and great character moments.

Defeat Every Optional Boss

While the main campaign has bosses like Heimdall and Thor, there are even more optional encounters awaiting the boldest warriors:

  • 13 Berserker Souls – defeat all of these frenzied warriors including Steindis the Jotunn, Holfi the Crescent Shield, and my nemesis Skeggi Slope-Runner.
  • Valkyrie Queen Gna – freezing blizzards and unrelenting scythe attacks push your mastery of parrying and dodging to their limits!
  • Hrist and Mist Valykries – 2 secret optional Valkyries with randomized attack patterns.
  • Sigrblot Festival Champion

Find All Collectibles

For the true completionist, locating every single collectible is an epic journey through hidden corners of the realms. These include:

  • 51 Artifacts – each provides interesting lore expanding on Norse myths
  • 48 Ravens – shoot these tricky birds for rewards
  • All Lost Treasures – buried hacksilver and crafting materials
  • Legendary Chests – hidden realm tears leading to ultimate gear

The “Beyond Ragnarök” Favor

This special endgame favor is the ultimate content gatekeeper – you cannot access it until completing the above milestones:

  • Main story including epilogue
  • All favors side quests
  • Every collectible
  • All optional boss fights

Think of it like the “post-post game” – a final monumental series of challenges awaiting only the world’s top tier players. Few can claim this glory!

Reflections on the Road to Level 9 from a Gaming Fanatic

As someone who has endlessly chased the thrills of combat mastery and exploration completion across the God of War series, I live for this kind of aspirational endgame content!

Reaching level 9 was incredibly rewarding after pouring hours into gathering those last few Hallocore Ores. The first time I carved through a legendary enemy in seconds felt phenomenally empowering.

Of course, I sighed in desperation battling Valkyries on Give Me God of War difficulty even with maxed out gear! But each hard-fought victory reminds me why I love confronting these intense battles.

100% completing the “Beyond Ragnarök” favor also stands as my proudest achievement yet – it demanded absolutely perfect skill across every system from axe throwing to shield bashing to weapon switching. Pure gaming nirvana!

So if you too love becoming completely overpowered, testing your skills against nearly-impossible challenges, and discovering every last layered secret tucked away by Santa Monica Studio’s brilliant designers, I couldn’t recommend more strongly venturing into God of War Ragnarök’s grandest endgame experiences. See you out there, fellow warriors!
