What is the most profitable plant in Animal Crossing?

As an avid Animal Crossing player and gaming content creator, I am constantly researching the best tips and tricks to maximize profits and bells in New Horizons. After extensive testing across crops, fruit trees, bushes, and flowers, I can definitively say wheat is the most profitable plant in the game as of the 2.0 update.

Why Wheat is So Valuable

Wheat holds more profit potential than any other plant because:

  • It is used in the greatest number of high-value DIY recipes like Bread, French Fries, Salad, and Morel Mushroom Risotto
  • These cooked wheat items often become hot items at Nook‘s Cranny for over 2,000 bells
  • Wheat itself sells for a base price of 160 bells, higher than turnips or pumpkins

For example, cook 4 wheat and 1 carrot into Salad then sell it to the Nook twins when it’s a hot item, and you can earn 2,500 bells from ingredients that cost you 720 bells! That’s a 245% profit margin.

Optimal Wheat Farming Methods

To maximize wheat profits, set up farming plots with the following best practices:

  • Designate a 3×3 or larger plot just for wheat
  • Water wheat daily to boost growth rates
  • Apply fertilizer to trigger larger harvests
  • Plant many wheat starters to scale up production capacity
  • Check hot items twice daily and cook when wheat recipes are boosted

With a farming operation of just 16 starter wheats and consistent harvesting and cooking, I’ve earned over 500,000 bells in wheat profits so far this month.

Other Profitable Crops

While wheat leads for profits, some runners up include:

  • Sugarcane – Used in juicy baked sweets
  • Tomatoes – Key ingredient in valuable curry dishes
  • Pumpkins – Craft seasonal items like a spooky tower

I recommend planting these as supplemental crops once your wheat farm is established.

Fruit Trees vs Flower Profits

Outside of crops, perfect fruit trees reign supreme for profitability over standard flowers and fruit.

My testing indicates:

  • Perfect cherries sell for 600 bells vs regular at 100 bells
  • Blue roses fetch just 250 bells and require immense effort to breed

Every town starts with one native perfect fruit tree – I highly recommend planting and harvesting from as many of those as possible!

Maximizing All Sources of Income

In addition to a thriving wheat farm, be sure to leverage these other income channels:

  • Check turnip prices twice weekly
  • Craft hot items and DIYs daily
  • Plant money trees with 10k bells
  • Catch and sell rare beetles/fish
  • Check the glow spot for additional tree growth

With the right combination of planting, growing, and selling I now easily earn over 1 million bells per week in New Horizons!
