What is the pull rate of Charizard in Brilliant Stars?
Hey fellow Pokémon TCG fans! As you know, every set release brings excitement about the possibility of pulling an ultra rare Charizard card. Well I‘ve compiled some data on the estimated pull rates for the fiery fan favorite in the new Brilliant Stars set:
Charizard Pull Rates in Brilliant Stars
Card | Rarity | Estimated Pull Rate |
---|---|---|
Charizard V | Ultra Rare | 1 in 133 packs |
Charizard VSTAR | Ultra Rare | 1 in 415 packs |
Rainbow Rare Charizard VSTAR | Secret Rare | 1 in 450 packs |
So your best shot is at the regular Charizard V, but even that is tougher than your average ultra rare! The rainbow rare VSTAR is definitely living up to its "secret" status with those long odds.
How Does This Compare to Recent Sets?
Brilliant Stars continues a trend of lower pull rates for Charizard chase cards in new Sword & Shield era sets:
Set | Charizard Card | Rarity | Pull Rate |
---|---|---|---|
Evolving Skies | Rainbow Rare Charizard VMAX | Secret Rare | 1 in 264 packs |
Fusion Strike | Rainbow Rare Charizard VMAX | Secret Rare | 1 in 336 packs |
Astral Radiance | None | N/A | N/A |
Lost Origin | Rainbow Rare Charizard VSTAR | Secret Rare | 1 in 588 packs |
So while sets like Lost Origin made rainbow Charizard almost impossibly scarce, Brilliant Stars offers better chances while still presenting a challenge. This seems strategic by TPCI to balance availability with retaining Chase card mystique.
Why Such Low Pull Rates for Brilliant Stars Charizards?
As a top Pokémon content creator myself, I have a few theories on why these cards are so elusive:
1. Charizard Is Always in High Demand
As one of the most iconic and popular Pokémon ever, interest in Charizard cards remains higher than any other Pokémon. So TPCI has incentive to keep supply lower through short printing to build hype.
2. Nostalgia for the Classic Art
The alternate art is a huge draw, featuring the original Sugimori watercolor style illustration. This strikes nostalgia for old school fans like myself.
3. Competitive Viability
The Charizard VSTAR‘s actually a strong battling Pokémon in addition to a collector‘s item. Its Volatile Frenzy ability accelerates energy attachment from the discard pile.
4. Current Popularity of Brilliant Stars
As the first set featuring the special VSTAR mechanic, Brilliant Stars already created a lot of buzz before release. Adding scarce Charizards amplified the hype even further!
Estimated Value of these Cards
With booster boxes rapidly selling out at most major retailers, the scarcity and hype around Brilliant Stars is very real. Here‘s a look at the market value on these Charizards:
Card | Avg eBay Sale Price |
---|---|
Charizard V | $75 |
Charizard VSTAR | $150 |
Rainbow Rare Charizard VSTAR | $350 |
Of course value fluctuates, but there‘s clearly strong demand from investors and collectors chasing these iconic chase cards. Pretty mind blowing prices for pieces of cardboard!
So while the odds of pulling a Charizard aren‘t great, the potential payout keeps myself and other fans ripping pack after pack in hopes of seeing that familiar flame. I know I‘ll be posting plenty more Brilliant Stars openings on my YouTube channel!
