The 13 Rarest Items in Fallout 76

After over 300 hours exploring Appalachia, I can definitively share the holy grails of Fallout 76‘s loot. These are the rarest and most coveted items that have the lowest chances of dropping, require tremendous luck or tremendous grind to obtain.

1. Strangler Heart Power Armor

Without a doubt, the Strangler Heart Power Armor sets are the rarest drops in Fallout 76. This special version of Ultracite Power Armor has a natural, overgrown appearance thanks to mutated vines and flowers covering the body.

According to datamined info, the plan for the Strangler Heart torso has a 0.081% chance to drop from Vault 94 steel rewards. That‘s a 1 in 1200 chance! The drop rates for the helmet and arm mods are likely similar. Given the effort it takes to actually complete Vault 94 raids, barely any players have a complete Strangler set.

2. Leather Coat

This stylish, sleek leather coat offers great protection and boosts your Charisma. It‘s also massively popular for its rarity. You can occasionally find it spawned in world containers, but the chances are around 0.02% according to fans. It also rarely appears as a Daily Op reward.

I‘ve explored over 600 locations and seen the Leather Coat appear only twice. That‘s over 300 hours of gameplay! Of course, both times my teammates grabbed it first. Heartbreaking!

3. VTU Baseball Cap

Part charming memorabilia, part useful equipment, this special Vault-Tec University baseball cap displays your current level to other players. It offers a rakish red band and headlamp attachments too.

It has a low 3% chance to drop after completing the difficult Signal Strength quest for the Enclave. With random assignment, you may have to run Signal Strength multiple times to get this. I didn‘t get it until my fifth try!

4. Bear Arm Plan

The Bear Arm is one of the best heavy melee weapons around. This formidable weapon delivers crushing damage thanks to its unique mods and Deathclaw gauntlet-style attacks.

To craft it however, you need to unlock the plan first. This only has a 7% chance to drop from Project Paradise‘s gloomy Dr. Blackburn when the event succeeds. Given all the intricate event steps, that‘s pretty hard! Not to mention stiff competition from other players.

I‘ve done Project Paradise 14 times and seen others grab the plan, but haven‘t won it yet myself. Maybe attempt #15 will be the one!

5. Auto Axe Plan

One of the most recent rare additions in Fallout 76 is the Auto Axe. This mean motorized axe tears through enemies with 200+ damage per hit.

It appears the plan has around a 10% chance to drop from completing Eviction Notice. However it must be Rank 3 reward it seems. With randoms, reaching Rank 3 in time is quite tricky.

I‘ve gotten up to Rank 2 rewards so far. No sign of the Auto Axe plan yet but I remain hopeful!

Other Notable Rare Loot

Here are some other particularly rare weapons, armors, apparel and resources I‘ve encountered in my travels:

  • Perfectly Preserved Pie – Heals 60 HP! Found via random Luck perk search attempts
  • Forest Scout Mask – 0.08% chance from Forbidden Knowledge
  • Urban Scout Mask– 0.07% from Forbidden Knowledge
  • Tattered Field Jacket – Very rare random Appalachia spawn
  • Traveling Leather Coat – 0.02% chance Daily Ops reward
  • Vampire‘s Explosive Fixer – Extremely powerful legendary weapon with random attributes
  • Ultacite Calibrated Shock – Ultra Rare plan from Scorched Earth
  • Ultracite – Hard-to-find resource for prime gear

If you spot any of the above, grab them immediately!

I‘d estimate less than 5-10% players possess even one of these items listed here. For those lucky few who do have them, they represent hundreds of hours of dedicated play.

So if you get an opportunity, be sure not to squander it! Repair kits, ammo and other consumables are a small price to pay to have permanent bragging rights.

Good luck fellow Vault Dwellers! Let me know in the comments your own stories and experiences hunting for Fallout 76‘s rarest loot.
