What should ADS sensitivity be on MW2?

Based on my experience as a passionate MW2 gamer and content creator, the ideal ADS (aim down sight) sensitivity lies between 0.80 – 1.00 times your hip fire sensitivity.

After testing extensively, I‘ve found that an ADS multiplier of 0.85 x hip fire sensitivity hits the sweet spot for most players. This provides precise aim while scoped in, while retaining enough speed to react when firing from the hip.

For example, if your hip fire sensitivity is set to 5, then your ADS sensitivity would be 4.25 (5 x 0.85 = 4.25). This allows granular control for lining up headshots, while still being able to whip around quickly when an enemy surprises you.

Why a Lower ADS Sensitivity Improves Accuracy

I‘ve noticed many MW2 players simply mirror their hip fire sensitivity for ADS. While this feels intuitive, it actually hurts your accuracy over longer ranges.

When aiming down sights, you‘re using magnification. This amplifies any overcorrection or jittery aim movement.

By lowering ADS sensitivity by 15-20%, you give yourself a steadier shooting platform. The trade off is that it takes slightly longer to rotate from one angle to another while scoped in.

But thanks to aim assist and reaction time, enemies don‘t usually escape your field of view during this transition.

After some target practice, this slower sens while ADS trains your muscle memory. You‘ll snap between targets effortlessly as the relationship between your optic‘s sight picture and arm movements becomes second nature.

Fine Tune Sensitivity for Each Zoom Level

Modern Warfare 2 also allows granular ADS sensitivity customization for each optic‘s level of magnification. This is key to truly mastering a sniper rifle or high zoom scope.

For example, the default SP-R 208 sniper rifle has variable 4x to 12x magnification. At 12x I set my ADS sens multiplier down to 0.60x for ultra fine aim control.

The general guideline is to reduce ADS sensitivity incrementally for each zoom level above your base optic (usually iron sights = 1x). This keeps your drag scopes and tracking consistent.

Zoom LevelADS Multiplier
Iron sights (1x)0.85x
Red dots (1.25x)0.80x
Low variable (2-4x)0.70x
High variable (6-8x)0.65x
Max (12-20x)0.60x or lower

This takes some dialing in – but it‘s easy to tweak optically once you understand the principles.

What About Response Curve & Acceleration?

I always disable acceleration because I find it throws off the ingrained controller movements I‘ve memorized. You may prefer a slight ramp up in speed, but it causes over & under adjustment issues for me.

For response curve, Linear is my personal choice. It maps your stick input directly to aim movement on screen with no mathematical translation. Feels crisper compared to the subtle aim drag of Dynamic or Standard options.

These are more personal preferences though. I‘d test out the various response curves in private matches to determine your favorite.

Up Your Sensitivity Gradually

If you want to work towards playing on a faster sens, build up gradually over multiple gaming sessions. As your accuracy improves, nudge your ADS and hip fire speeds up in tandem.

This sidesteps the frustration of overshooting targets constantly when making a wild sensitivity leap.

I‘d also advise lowering aim assist to partially compensate. This avoids sticky slow down that can throw off flick shots.

With practice, playing on higher sensitivities unlocks quicker reactions and expands your mastery of advanced movement techniques. It just takes strategic incremental progress to stick the landing at faster speeds.

Hopefully this gives you a better feel for fine tuning your MW2 aim down sight sensitivity. Let me know in the comments if you have any other questions!
