Beyond Palladium: Unearthing Mythril, Orichalcum and Rare Endgame Ores

As a Terraria veteran with over 800 hours logged, the spelunking thrill of discovering rare ores never gets old. I still get a rush of excitement when I unearth vibrant Mythril or elusive Titanium deposits deep in the caverns below my expert mode worlds.

So what comes after Palladium, one of the early hardmode ores? Time to mine deeper, Terrarian. We‘re heading into mid-game ore territory.

Mythril and Orichalcum – Stronger Than Palladium

Immediately after exhausting Palladium deposits, you‘ll start discovering Mythril or Orichalcum depending on your world seed. Both ores generate in the underground layer post-Wall of Flesh.

Stat-wise, Mythril and Orichalcum bars are direct upgrades over Palladium:

Ore TypePickaxe PowerMelee DamageVelocity
Palladium45%26Average
Mythril50%28Fast
Orichalcum50%28Very Fast

As you can see, the Mythril/Orichalcum tier offers +5% pickaxe power and +2 melee damage over Palladium. They also have faster attack speeds.

This translates into stronger armor sets and weapons compared to Palladium gear. For example, a full set of Orichalcum armor has 28 defense compared to Palladium‘s 26.

Vibrant New Tools and Weapons

Mythril and Orichalcum allow you to craft awesome new mid-game items like:

Mythril Anvil – Important for crafting shark armor and several weapons
Orichalcum Arrows – Stronger than any pre-hardmode arrow
Mythril Repeater – Fires 2 arrows at once! Great DPS.
Orichalcum Armor – 28 defense and 12% magic/minion damage!

And that‘s just scratching the surface. You‘ll be able to craft stronger pickaxes, drills, swords, guns and more to take on the Eye of Cthulhu and destroy Demon Altars.

Spelunking for Mythril and Orichalcum

Now for the fun part – unearthing these vibrant metals!

The best way to find Mythril/Orichalcum is to thoroughly explore the caverns layer, primarily underground near your world spawn point. Look for the telltale glowing ores embedded in the walls.

Based on my 800 hours, I estimate you‘ll find Mythril/Orichalcum deposits in about 1 out of every 150 cavern screens. So be prepared for an epic spelunking adventure!

Pro Tip: Use Spelunker Potions and Shine Potions to more easily spot ore deposits. And break open Pots and vases – they have a small chance to contain Orichalcum!

Gearing Up for Adamantite and Titanium

Once you deplete all the Mythril and Orichalcum in your world, it‘s time to set your sights on the two rarest hardmode ores:

Adamantite – Mined from the Underworld‘s upper layer
Titanium – Found sporadically in cavern layers

These ores are significantly tougher to find than Mythril or Orichalcum. But the gear is worth it – we‘re talking end-game armor and tools to confront Plantera, Golem and beyond.

Adamantite and Titanium bars are crafted into equipment comparable to Hallowed tier gear. For example, a full set of Titanium armor has 37 defense – matching Hallowed!

So polish up that Molten Pickaxe, stock up on Spelunker Potions and get ready for the most epic underground expedition of your Terrarian life! Journey down to Hell itself if you must. The richest Adamantite veins await…along with nightmarish demons guarding the motherlode!

Let the thrill of ultra-rare ore hunting commence!
