When can Shadow Pokémon forget Frustration 2023
Shadow Pokémon will be able to forget the Charged Attack Frustration during the next Team GO Rocket takeover event in Pokémon GO, scheduled for March 2023.
I know many trainers, including myself, are eagerly awaiting this event to finally unlock our precious Shadow Pokémon!
What are Shadow Pokémon?
For those newer to the game, Shadow Pokémon are special versions of Pokémon corrupted by Team GO Rocket. They have a number of unique attributes:
- 20% attack bonus
- 20% defense penalty
- Know the Charged Attack Frustration by default
- Gain 2 IV points when purified back to normal
The attack bonus makes Shadow Pokémon invaluable for high DPS raid attacking and PVP battling. However, the frustration move holds them back from reaching full potential.
Why You MUST Remove Frustration
Frustration is by far the worst Charged Attack in the game, with only 10 base power. To put that into perspective, the average Charged Attack has 50-100 base power.
Replacing Frustration unlocks a Shadow Pokémon‘s tremendous attacking capabilities. Just look at how much better some top counters perform after removing Frustration:
Pokémon | With Frustration | With Best Charged Attack |
Shadow Mewtwo | 19.633 DPS | 23.378 DPS |
Shadow Machamp | 18.751 DPS | 22.186 DPS |
Shadow Salamence | 19.173 DPS | 22.967 DPS |
As you can see, teaching a strong Charged Attack instead of Frustration results in around 15-20% more damage output – massive gains!
When Can Frustration Be Forgotten?
Frustration can ONLY be forgotten during special Team GO Rocket takeover events.
Niantic has held these events 5-6 times per year recently. Based on patterns from 2022, I predict the March 2023 event dates will likely fall somewhere between:
March 10th – March 25th
I‘ll be sure to update this post once exact dates are announced on Niantic‘s blog.
How to Remove Frustration
Removing Frustration is simple:
- Make sure you have Charged TMs – you‘ll need one per Shadow Pokémon!
- Wait for the March 2023 Team GO Rocket event announcement
- During event hours, tap a Charged TM then select the Shadow Pokémon
- Confirm that you want to forget Frustration!
And don‘t worry – once forgotten, Frustration can NEVER be relearned!
Is Shadow Better Than Purified?
Many wonder if they should keep their Pokémon as Shadow or purify them. Here‘s a comparison:
Shadow
- 20% Attack Bonus
- Cheaper power up cost
- Looks awesome
Purified
- Return Charged Attack
- +2 IV Points
While purified versions unlock Return and gain IV, you lose that invaluable 20% attack buff.
My advice? Choose one or two Shadow Pokémon to purify for collectors value, and keep the rest Shadow!
No amount of IV can make up for the massive attack gains you receive. Shadow Machamp, Mewtwo and more will be absolute raid-shredding beasts!
Final Thoughts
I hope this guide gave you lots of insight into removing Frustration from the coveted Shadow Pokémon! Let me know if you have any other questions.
And remember to take advantage of the March 2023 Team GO Rocket takeover event! I can‘t wait to finally unlock my army of Shadow attackers.
Time to put together the ultimate raid squads and pummel those legendary bosses!
