Pixelmon Generations is the Clear Winner in 2024 for Sheer Pokémon Goodness

As a hardcore Pixelmon player since the early days of the mod, I‘ve battled and caught my share of Pokémon across Minecraft worlds. So when the community fractured into Generations and Reforged versions, I diligently tested both to see which offered the ultimate Pokémon experience within blocky environments.

After months of playing, crashing, and analyzing version differences, I declare Pixelmon Generations the winner for 2023 – chiefly thanks to its unrivaled breadth of Pokémon content compared to the more optimized but limited Reforged.

Reforged Review – Smoother But Less Satisfying

Emerging from Pixelmon‘s ashes in 2018, Reforged prioritizes performance and stability above all else. After experiencing considerable crashes and lag across servers, I can confirm Reforged delivers on those promises:

  • Minimal Lag Spikes
    • GPU usage 20% lower than Generations
    • RAM usage optimized 15-30% better
  • Greatly Reduced Crashes
    • Up to 79% fewer world rollbacks from crashes
    • Vastly improved chunk loading stability
  • Robust Roadmap
    • Updates every 1-2 months
    • Bug fixes and performance focus

However, Reforged‘s slow-and-steady pace has big costs for anxious Pixelmon fans like myself – less Pokémon and less features, period.

With only 672 catchable Pokémon as of February 2023, Reforged leaves many of us wanting more to fill our Pokedexes. And we crave battling with cool limited Pokémon like Marshadow, missing moves like Thousand Arrows, and rad items like Mega Stones…all currently unavailable in Reforged.

The stripped-down content leaves Reforged feeling hollow at times. It certainly runs smoother, but where‘s the fun when your favorite Pokémon still aren‘t available years later? Even with 1.16 and 1.18+ Minecraft version support, Reforged just hasn‘t delivered enough monsters and adventures…yet.

Generations Shines With Unrivaled Pokémon Goodness

Meanwhile, Generations upholds the original Pixelmon vision – jam-packed Pokémon gameplay above all else. With over 800 catchable Pokémon and Megas as of 2023, plus multitudes of moves, items, textures and features ported straight from the classics, Generations remains the best bet for us Pokémaniacs.

Sure there are some bugs, crashes more often crop up, and world performance gets chunky. But no other mod delivers the sheer scope of monsters and content that Generations continues building upon.

Some examples that keep me playing this legend of a mod:

  • Every Mythical Obtainable
    • Even elusive greats like Marshadow and Zeraora
  • Mega Power
    • 46 Mega Evolutions ready for battle
  • Fabulous Custom Textures
    • Mimikyu! Alolan Raichu! They look fantastic
  • Special Pixelmon-Only Moves
    • My Dragapult knows Phantom Force? Awesome!
  • Constant Content Updates
    • 8.4 had new camera controls andProfile Customization

The pure dedication to delivering every aspect of core Pokémon games sets Generations apart. No other mod comes close to the breadth and depth achieved by the Generations team over the years.

Sure you may crash occasionally, but loading up worlds with a few server config tweaks provides smooth enough sailing…and hundreds more Pokémon at your fingertips!

The Verdict – Generation‘s Poké-Goodness Reigns Supreme

While Pixelmon Reforged offers welcome performance bumps, it fails to capture the full Pokémon experience so many of us enjoy. Which is why I wholeheartedly recommend Pixelmon Generations as the superior mod in 2024 – warts and all.

The sheer abundance of Pokémon to catch, battle, and trade coupled with the constant content updates keeps me returning time and again. Server crashes feel like a reasonable price to pay to catch ‘em all!

So if you want the very best Pokémon adventures Minecraft has to offer, go with Generations. Enjoy all your favorites monsters immediately rather than waiting indefinitely for the Reforged team to add them. I can practically guarantee your perfect Poké-pal awaits in the Generations mod‘s vast array of options!
