As a passionate Dragon Ball expert and gaming content creator, one of my favorite artifacts from DB lore is unquestionably the mythical Z Sword. Wielded at various times by Gohan, Goku, and Future Trunks, the Z Sword has a rich backstory tying into Beerus, Supreme Kai history, and beyond. Let‘s explore.
The Chosen One Who Freed the Z Sword
While many attempted over generations, including even the Supreme Kais themselves, only Gohan succeeded in freeing the Z Sword from its stone sheath. His hybrid Saiyan potential, likely amplified by intense training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, allowed the half-Saiyan to draw the sword after powering up to his Super Saiyan form.
So when it comes to fully wielding the Z Sword in combat for a period of time, Gohan stands alone as the chosen one strong enough to utilize it in battle. An impressive feat considering the Supreme Kais themselves could not manage to budge it!
How Would the Majin Buu Conflict Have Shifted If the Sword Wasn‘t Broken?
A fascinating fan theory is what could have transpired if Gohan hadn‘t accidentally broken the Z Sword while training. As the only one capable of maneuvering the heavy blade with enough speed and skill to incorporate it into combat, could Gohan have utilized the sword to defeat foes like Super Buu himself?
Some fans speculate the Z Sword could have even been used to fatally wound Majin Buu, circumventing the need for techniques like the Spirit Bomb or Potara fusion!

How Future Trunks‘ Timeline Was Impacted by the Z Sword‘s Destruction
Unlike the main DB timeline, Future Trunks‘ dark future sees him continuing to wield a mighty sword in battle as his signature weapon. Likely inspired by Tapion‘s Brave Sword in the Battle of Gods film timeline.
But an intriguing implication exists – what if Future Trunks‘ sword is actually the recovered fragments of the destroyed Z Sword itself? Perhaps in that timeline‘s version of Majin Buu‘s awakening, the lack of Elder Kai‘s ability unlock doomed the Z-Fighters. But Trunks recovering part of that broken ancient weapon led him to victory regardless!

As many fans now know, the driving force behind the Z Sword‘s creation was actually Beerus himself. After a heated argument gone too far, the God of Destruction improvised by sealing Elder Supreme Kai away within a sword rather than destroying everything as he intended.
This reveals the Z Sword itself was never actually intended to be a weapon for battle. Instead, it was simply a way for Beerus to creatively subdue an immortal foe without destroying key universe components!
Could the Z Sword Actually Defeat Majin Buu or Beerus Himself?
A common fan debate exists – assuming someone had enough skill to wield it, could the Z Sword itself realistically help defeat foes like Kid Buu or perhaps even Beerus himself? Based on everything we‘ve seen, the answer seems to be likely not.
The sword was durable enough to contain an entity like Elder Supreme Kai without issue for eons. But we saw base form Goku accidentally shatter the blade showing it‘s not indestructible. So against universe-busting strikes from the likes of Buu or Beerus‘ destructive energy, the sword simply isn‘t enough.
But that doesn‘t diminish its historical importance! After all, the legends surrounding the Z Sword set up key introductions like Elder Kai overseeing Goku and Vegeta‘s Potara fusion training. Truly impacting DBZ‘s climactic Majin Buu showdown in unexpected ways!
So while it may not be the omni-powerful weapon some first believed, the Z Sword‘s legacy of influencing DB history can‘t be overstated even long after its physical form was broken.
