Who‘s the real top DPS: Yoimiya or Ganyu?

After months of testing, number crunching, and team rotations, the theorycrafting community has largely concluded that Ganyu still reigns supreme over Yoimiya in terms of overall damage potential and meta relevance. However, some argue Yoimiya provides more comfortable gameplay. Ultimately, different playstyles and account needs may make one character better suited for you.

As a passionate Genshin fan who obsesses over keeping my healers alive, I live for these kinds of in-depth debates. Let‘s dig into the key abilities of these two heavy-hitting waifus to settle this once and for all!

Bursting down single targets with Yoimiya

Clad in a colorful kimono, the always-excited fireworks expert Yoimiya unleashes pyrotechnic mayhem with her rapid-fire normal attacks. Her elemental skill converts her bow shots to pyro damage and increases attack speed for its duration.

I love dashing around the battlefield and machine-gunning down Specters and elite bosses with Yoimiya. With the right supports like Yun Jin to buff her normal attack damage, Yoimiya‘s single-target DPS is awesome. Vaporizing those shots with Xingqiu‘s rainswords takes her damage even higher.

However, needing to stay on the field during her skill duration makes her vulnerable compared to quickswap characters. Her lack of AOE also starts to hurt in late Spiral Abyss floors with mobs of enemies. Still, I‘ll always have a soft spot for these adorable firework femboys.

Raining down icy destruction with Ganyu

The gentle half-adeptus secretary Ganyu has arguably one of the highest damage ceilings in Genshin. Wielding her icy Bow of Amos, she can obliterate groups of enemies by raining down the mountain-sized Frostflake arrows of her charged attacks.

When building up Ganyu, seeing those thick 30k+ frostflake bloom damage numbers never gets old. Her Cryo application enables great freeze and melt reaction teams to drive her damage higher. Ganyu also works fantastically as a quick swap burst sub-DPS thanks to the quadratic scaling on her ult.

Top all that sweet Cryo goodness with some drippy horns and an elegant qipao dress, and Ganyu still checks all the boxes over two years later for one of Genshin‘s most versatile characters. The sheer range you can snipe enemies from makes overworld exploration so comfy!

With freeze, melt, and reverse melt teams enabling massive damage spikes, Ganyu pulls far ahead of Yoimiya in raw firepower and late Spiral Abyss viability.

However, some argue Yoimiya provides more comfortable gameplay not needing to aim frostflake arrows. Players also greatly value pyro DPS for challenges like Cryo Hypostasis and strong pyro-focused artifacts sets.

So who comes out on top as the "better" DPS? Let‘s crunch some numbers.

The proof is in the pudding: usage rate trends

Analyzing Spiral Abyss clear data paints a telling picture of how these pyro and cryo DPS waifus have withstood the test of time.

As patch 3.0 and Dendro kicked the Genshin meta into overdrive, freeze Ganyu and melt Ganyu teams still dominate usage rates among players 36-starring late Spiral Abyss floors:

Ganyu usage over time

Ganyu‘s consistent relevance over 2 years shows her versatility and damage (SpiralAbyss.org).

Meanwhile, Yoimiya struggles to keep pace as other pyro DPS like Hu Tao overshadow her:

Yoimiya usage over time

Yoimiya‘s niche single-target damage can‘t match meta pyro teams (SpiralAbyss.org).

So while both deliver impressive numbers, Ganyu‘s flexible role consolidation and amplification reactions like melt/freeze solidify her ranking as the overall stronger DPS pick over Yoimiya today.

Future-proofing for Dendro and beyond

With new Dendro reactions and characters continuing to shake up the combat meta, how might these DPS waifus fare moving forward?

Yoimiya stands to benefit greatly from Dendro teams that enable her to trigger the Burning explosive reaction. Pairing her with Dendro archer Collei and an electro for intensified electro-charged combos is very promising. I can‘t wait to put my C2 Yoimiya to work with these new Dendro toys!

For Ganyu, freeze teams will likely overtake melt teams in usage as nilou-focused bloom reaction teams rise. However, with Amos Bow and a good crit ratio, Ganyu can still output insane damage even without reactions. Cryo will also remain valuable against hydro shields and enemies.

So while pygromancer Yoimiya‘s Dendro synergy will rise, I believe icy adeptus Ganyu stays future-proof with her flexibility across roles and ability to adapt to new meta reactions. Those thick frostflakes for days!

If you‘re on the fence deciding between these two lovable DPS waifus, I firmly believe Ganyu‘s versatility, damage potential, and proven longevity make her the superior investment compared to the more niche Yoimiya.

However, some players certainly value Yoimiya‘s no-fuss pyro pew pews and single target specialty. So if playing a comfortable pyro machine gun sounds fun, crown triple Yoimiya by all means! Or even run them together for pyro overload.

For new players strongly debating these two, know that Ganyu enables you to flexibly build teams across multiple elements and clears content reliably for years to come. Unless you hate bow aim shots, just pull her, craft that sweet Prototype Crescent, and never look back!
