Julius Novachrono is Undoubtedly the Strongest Wizard King
As a passionate Black Clover fan and gaming content creator, I am constantly evaluating the power levels of different mages in the series. And without a doubt, the wizard king Julius Novachrono stands supreme when it comes to magic, combat skills, and overall strength.
Who is Julius Novachrono?
For those less familiar with Black Clover, Julius Novachrono is the 28th and current Wizard King of the Clover Kingdom. Not only is he the Clover Kingom‘s strongest mage, but he also leads the Magic Knights as their captain and chief.

As wizard king, Julius has spent decades mastering the intricacies of magic and he is regarded as an unparalleled magical genius in the Clover Kingdom.
His mastery of time magic makes him an almost unbeatable opponent in one-on-one combat. Julius can control the flow of time itself – that means he can speed up, slow down, pause, rewind or fast forward time as he sees fit during a battle.
This gives Julius an unmatched tactical advantage and makes it extremely difficult for opponents to touch him. He can lock foes in accelerated or slowed down time bubbles while freely moving at normal speed himself.
Analyzing Julius‘s Power Level and Magic Abilities
Julius‘s unique time magic takes his power to a level that likely no other wizard king has reached before. Based on his performance both in and out of combat, I would rank Julius‘s power stats as:

Magic Mastery: 100/100
Mana Sensory: 90/100
Magical Knowledge: 100/100
Leadership: 100/100
Magic Power – Julius‘s mastery over time allows him to warp reality itself. He can age or de-age opponents, teleport short distances by moving through the time-space continuum, and reverse any non-fatal injuries. His mana capacity is among the highest seen in the series so far.
Magic Mastery – Having trained for decades to master time magic, Julius has complete control and skill when wielding this extremely rare magic attribute. He can cast high-level temporal magic spells simultaneously while fighting.
Mana Sensory – As wizard king, Julius can sense magic power and mana sources across vast distances. This allows him to track other mages and respond quickly to threats.
Knowledge – Aside from his combat abilities, Julius has studied all forms of magic extensively making him the most knowledgeable mage in the kingdom. If there is ever a magical threat he does not at first understand, he can quickly unravel its mysteries through academic study of magic.
Leadership – As captain of the Magic Knights, Julius has earned deep loyalty and respect. He leads not through power but wisdom and strategy.
So when you combine his overwhelmingly destructive time magic, intellectual genius, strategic leadership, and mana sensory abilities – Julius is clearly peerless as the strongest wizard king.
How Julius Compares to Other Powerful Wizard Kings
Throughout Clover Kingdom‘s history, many mighty mages have held the title of wizard king. So how does Julius stack up against previous wizard kings when it comes to magic power and combat ability?

As this table shows, when compared against even the greatest wizard kings of the past, no one quite matches Julius‘s reality-bending time magic and intellectual genius.
The creator of modern magic, Lemiel Silvamillion Clover, may have known more varied spells – but he did not have access to rare attributes like time magic. Licht is considered Wizard King level thanks to his light swords that can cut through anything – but he has no counter to being frozen in time.
So while the title has been held by many strong mages of the past, Julius Novachrono demonstrates a cut above the rest when factoring the potency of his time-based powers.
Could Any Current Character Surpass Julius Novachrono?
The only characters that have a chance of surpassing Julius in my opinion are Yami Sukehiro, Asta, and Yuno – all of whom scale quickly in power throughout the anime and manga.
Yami Sukehiro comes the closest having been offered the position of wizard king in the past. His dark magic and ki sensing gives him an advantage when fighting mages much stronger than himself. In a head-on battle, Yami could push Julius‘s skills to the very limit. I estimate Yami to realistically sit at a power level of 98/100 compared to Julius.
The series protagonist Asta wields anti-magic, making him an interesting foil to any mage. His demonic transformations and ability to nullify all magical effects make him an intriguing matchup for even Julius. However, Asta is yet to fully control his anti-magic powers. Until he unlocks the full scope of his arcane abilities, I‘d estimate Asta around 90/100 power level compared to Julius.
Yuno is another prodigy who could contend with wizard kings once fully trained. As an elf reincarnate and the prince of Spade Kingdom, Yuno‘s mastery of wind and star magic gives him frightening potential. After inheriting the wind spirit Sylph, Yuno could potentially match Julius‘s reality-warping powers by manipulating the atmosphere itself. I rate Yuno around 85/100 compared to Julius at his current stage of development.
Outside of these three fighters, no other Magic Knights captain comes close to Julius‘s abilities – making him comfortably the #1 ranked. The only other wizard king tier mage would be Patolli (the Licht descendant) who was eventually redeemed in the story.
So while contenders may arise, I do not foresee the formidable Julius Novachrono being overthrown anytime soon when it comes to the title of strongest wizard king. He simple has too many tricks up his sleeve when it comes to using complex temporal magic.
Final Thoughts: Julius Stands Alone at the Top
