Why is Bayern Munich‘s stadium not in FIFA?

Bayern Munich‘s Allianz Arena home stadium remains exclusive to Konami‘s eFootball series and is not included in EA Sports‘ FIFA games. This is due to Bayern‘s partnership agreement with Konami.

Key licensing deals lead to stadium omissions

FIFA 23 sees high-profile stadiums like Barcelona‘s Camp Nou and Juventus Stadium return to the game after previously being exclusive to eFootball.

However, Bayern‘s deal with Konami means the Allianz Arena remains omitted from FIFA games for now. Other Bundesliga stadiums are included, like Borussia Dortmund‘s Signal Iduna Park.

This demonstrates how licensing issues around partnerships, sponsorships and rights deals can still lead to key stadiums being left out of games.

The issue with stadium naming rights

Bayern‘s stadium is officially named the Allianz Arena after an insurance company sponsorship deal. However, FIFA‘s policy prevents stadiums from being named after non-FIFA sponsors.

So even if an agreement was reached, EA would likely have to use a generic name like ‘Munich Stadium‘. This makes licensing deals more complex.

What else is missing in FIFA 23?

  • Brazilian national team only has generic players.
  • Some leagues like Liga MX and J1 League removed.
  • Roma, Lazio, Atalanta and Napoli appear as Roma FC, Latium, Bergamo Calcio and Napoli FC.

So licensing issues continue to have an impact on available teams and players.

The future: EA Sports FC replacing FIFA series

Next year will see EA introduce EA Sports FC as its rebranded soccer game series after the licensing deal ends with FIFA itself.

So FIFA will also launch its own rival soccer game. It remains to be seen what impact this split has on available licenses and partnerships.
