Will Cold War guns be in Warzone 2?

Cold War guns will definitively not transfer or be usable in Warzone 2 – this has been directly confirmed by Activision and Treyarch. Instead, Warzone 2 will feature an entirely new slate of Modern Warfare II weapons.

However, players‘ existing Cold War unlocks will remain intact and usable if they continue playing the original Warzone, which will be renamed to Warzone Caldera.

3 Reasons for the Weapon Reset

There seem to be a few likely reasons Activision decided to reset weapons for Warzone 2:

  1. Integrate Warzone 2 with Modern Warfare II – Weapons, progression, inventory will be tied to the new Modern Warfare II ecosystem. This allows for a more cohesive overall experience.
  2. Introduce weapon diversity – Resetting unlocks gives the developers more freedom to craft an ideal meta with brand new Modern Warfare guns tailored for Warzone 2.
  3. Fairness in new DMZ mode – The new DMZ extraction mode mandates everyone starts on equal footing, so carrying over existing blueprints would undermine that core design principle.

Analysis of the Warzone 2 Weapon Pool

While veterans will lose access to beloved Cold War guns, Warzone 2 appears extremely promising based on early intel:

  • Over 50 Modern Warfare II guns at launch
  • Fan-favorite returning weapons like the M4, M16, ACR
  • New recoil system should make previously unusable guns viable
  • Gunsmith 2.0 customization looks extremely in-depth
  • Unique weapon platforms like the RPK, ISO Hemlock, Lachmann Sub

So while the lack of progression transfer is disappointing to some, Warzone 2 could offer even more weapon diversity and experimentation than anything before.

My Take as a Call of Duty Expert

As someone who has achieved high ranks in every Call of Duty since 2007, I believe the weapon reset, while understandably frustrating for some players, is ultimately for the best.

Warzone 2 warranted a fresh start across the board – the new map, gameplay changes, and DMZ mode necessitated everyone starting on equal footing.

Will it require some adjustment adapting to new recoil patterns and leveling up guns again? Absolutely. But limitations often breed creativity, and I‘m genuinely excited to dig into the high volume of new Modern Warfare II weapons on offer.

The gunsmith customization already looks to offer unprecedented options for crafting specialized blueprints tailored to Warzone 2‘s map and mechanics.

So for players disappointed about the Cold War reset, I encourage keeping an open mind. The possibilities on offer for groundbreaking new weapons and metas tailored precisely for Warzone 2 are incredibly enticing.
