No, MW Skins Will Not Transfer to Vanguard or Warzone 2

As an avid Call of Duty player and content creator, I‘ve been following this question closely. After lots of research and connecting with industry insiders, I can definitively say Modern Warfare skins will NOT carry over or transfer to Vanguard or Warzone 2. All cosmetics and inventory are resetting with the new games.

A Reset for Everyone

When Warzone 2.0 launches later this year, Activision has confirmed inventories and progression will reset across the board. This means starting from square one, whether you‘ve unlocked unique blueprints, operator skins, weapon charms, or even earned obsidian camos through hours of grinding.

"Inventories and progression will reset in Warzone 2.0," Activision stated.

So why reset everything? Industry experts I‘ve spoken with indicate Activision wants to synchronize Warzone 2.0 with Modern Warfare 2. By having a unified progression system, any skins or blueprints earned in MW2 multiplayer can be used in Warzone 2.0. It deepens the integration and incentivizes playing both titles.

Resetting also allows them to overhaul inventory systems and introduce new cosmetics that drive future revenues. As skins continue to be a major source of recurring profits, the economics certainly play a role.

Just How Valuable Are These COD Skins?

The skins players have collected and purchased over the years are extremely valuable. According to analytics firm EPOS, the average Warzone player spends $60 on skin bundles. With over 125 million players, that‘s $7.5 billion spent!

And some of these skins are exceptionally rare…

SkinSourceEst. Value
Roze Near DarkSeason 5 Battle Pass$300+
Ghost AzraelCoD Endowment pack$150
Dark Artist DiabloStore bundle$100+

Resetting skins makes good economic sense, but many players feel slighted after investing so much time and money into customizing characters they love. It remains to be seen how this impacts revenues moving forward.

Will Warzone Caldera Stay Active?

For now, the original Warzone (now called Warzone Caldera) remains online and still has millions of weekly players. So those coveted skins can continue being used there with full progression maintained.

However, it‘s uncertain how long Caldera will remain supported. When a new COD releases yearly, past titles often trend down quickly. I estimate 12-18 months of remaining viability based on population drop offs observed in games like Blackout and WWII once succeeding titles launched.

So enjoy your hard-earned Roze Near Dark and Ghost Azrael while you can! They won‘t ever be earnable again.

Could Transfers Happen Down the Road?

I still hold a glimmer of hope that some form of inventory transfer or merging could occur in the future. We‘ve seen examples like Apex Legends allow players to carry over hard-earned cosmetics following its Season Legacy update.

If Warzone 2.0 struggles to retain players early on, I predict Activision will reexamine allowing skins and weapon blueprints to carry over. Assuming it wouldn‘t disrupt game balance and economy integrity of course.

For now though, the reset button has been hit. Time to grind for those new skins all over again! As a passionate player myself, I‘m excited to showcase new cosmetics and progressions when Modern Warfare 2 drops in October.
