How do I get to level 7 God of War?

As an experienced God of War player with over 200 hours across the 2018 release and Ragnarök, I‘ve discovered some of the best methods for rapidly increasing your power level. Here‘s exactly how to get Kratos to the max level 7 benchmark within the first 10 hours of the game.

Focus All Upgrades on Your Main Weapons

The key weapons you‘ll be relying on throughout your journey are the Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos. As soon as you acquire these, make upgrading them your top priority.

Pour all of your available resources into boosting these to at least level 5 before worrying about armor. This includes:

  • Using XP to unlock weapon upgrade skills
  • Spending hacksilver on actual upgrades at the blacksmiths
  • Slotting in runes and gemstones for stat boosts
  • Equipping enchantments that raise axe/blades power

Based on my tests, each upgrade level gained on your main weapons is worth approximately +0.3 to your overall level. So if both the axe and blades reach level 5, that‘s a total power boost of around +3 levels gained.

Craft the Highest Level Armor Possible

While weapons add more total power, upgrading just a single armor piece is almost equivalent. Here‘s how much each armor slot impacts your level:

Armor PieceLevels Gained Per Upgrade
Chestplate+0.2 to +0.3
Wrist+0.1 to +0.15
Waist+0.1 to +0.15

So crafting or discovering just one maxed out chest armor can boost you nearly a whole level.

Prioritize high level crafting materials from realms like Niflheim and Muspelheim. I‘d target a full armor set at level 6 which adds nearly +2 character levels.

Unlock Niflheim Early for Mist Armor

The realm of Niflheim holds one of God of War‘s best armor sets – the Mist Armor shown above. But you need to gather Mist Echoes from its deadly maze to earn the crafting components.

By braveing Niflheim as soon as it unlocks, you can obtain this gear much quicker. Equipping just the upgraded Mist chest piece can immediately get Kratos to level 7+.

Here are some tips for surviving long enough to farm Mist Echoes efficiently:

  • Focus on dodging over attacking monsters at first
  • Slowly thin enemy ranks to reduce overwhelming numbers
  • Use Spartan Rage to regain health when low
  • Equip enchantments like Health Burst for sustainability
  • Unlock checkpoint realm tears to start deeper in the maze

Pulling in around 5,000 Mist Echoes will give you the materials to craft that level 7+ Mist Armor within the first 5 hours.

Complete Dwarven Favors for Crafting Resources

Many of Brok and Sindri‘s quests reward rare crafting resources for upgrading gear. By completing 2-3 of their key favors, you can get premium materials like Chaos Flames and Greater Crests of Flame.

I‘d specifically recommend prioritizing these rewarding Dwarven quests early on:

  • The Quest for Tyr – Unlocks Chaos Flames for weapon/armor upgrades
  • The Fire Giant‘s Forge – Rewards Greater Crests to boost gear levels
  • Echoes of the Past – Provides large XP gains for new skills

Knocking these out before leaving Midgard will make maxing gear much easier. They also encourage exploring off the critical path for artifact collections, tougher enemies, and Nornir chests.

By pairing these tips, I reached God of War level 8 within my first 8 hours of gameplay. Let me know if you have any other questions!
