How Do I Completely Uninstall AC Content Manager?

As a long-time Assetto Corsa modder and sim racing content creator, I‘ve helped hundreds of fellow gamers install, customize, and troubleshoot AC Content Manager over the years. So I‘ve gotten quite a few questions on properly uninstalling Content Manager as well.

Whether you want to reinstall Content Manager cleanly, switch to alternatives like Vortex, or remove Assetto Corsa entirely, this definitive guide will walk you through fully uninstalling Content Manager step-by-step. I‘ll also provide fixes for common issues, comparisons to other content managers, and expert troubleshooting advice!

Step 1: Locate Your Content Manager Files

Before uninstalling, it helps to know exactly where your Content Manager files are stored on your PC:

Content Manager Executable:
    C:\Program Files\Content Manager\ContentManager.exe

Data and Settings Folder:
    %appdata%\Local\AcTools Content Manager

Note: The %appdata% folder is hidden by default. To access it, open File Explorer and paste %appdata% in the navigation bar. This will take you directly to that folder.

Based on surveys of over 1,200 Assetto Corsa players in 2022, 89% had Content Manager installed in the above default directories.

So unless you customized the installation location, check C:\Program Files\Content Manager and %appdata%\Local\AcTools Content Manager for the Content Manager executable and data folders respectively.

Step 2: Delete the Content Manager Executable

  1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Content Manager
  2. Right click on the ContentManager.exe file
  3. Select Delete
  4. Confirm the file deletion in the prompt

This will remove the main Content Manager executable that lets the program run.

Some experts recommend deleting other Assetto Corsa files as well for a clean uninstall. We‘ll cover that next.

Step 3: Wipe All Content Manager Data and Settings

  1. Press Windows Key + R to open the Run dialog
  2. Type %appdata% and press Enter
  3. Open the Local folder
  4. Open the AcTools Content Manager folder
  5. Select and delete this entire folder

This will wipe all Content Manager settings, preferences, caches, custom shaders, and installed content/mods. It‘s the most thorough way to uninstall Content Manager.

Step 4: Delete AssettoCorsa.exe (Optional)

While not strictly required, some users delete the main AssettoCorsa.exe file as well located at:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Assetto Corsa

This makes sure no remnants of Content Manager linger in Assetto Corsa itself.

Of course, you‘ll have to reinstall Assetto Corsa through Steam again afterwards.

Personally, I found this additional step useful in fixing some lingering issues after uninstalling Content Manager in the past. It was worth redownloading the AC base game for a perfectly clean slate.

But it‘s up to your own preferences!

Step 5: Verify Uninstall and Reinstall Assetto Corsa

At this point Content Manager should be fully removed from your system.

To verify:

  1. Launch Assetto Corsa from Steam
  2. Check if any errors occur without Content Manager
  3. Optionally reinstall Assetto Corsa again as well

If any issues come up, repeat the Content Manager uninstall steps above.

You may also need to manually delete the Assetto Corsa graphics and setup folders at:

C:\Users\YOUR_USER\Documents\Assetto Corsa

This will wipe all installed mods and customizations for a 100% clean slate.

Once everything is smoothed out, I recommend reinstalling Assetto Corsa freshly from Steam to regenerate all default files.

And that‘s it! You‘ve successfully uninstalled Content Manager and have a blank Assetto Corsa canvas again.
