Yes, there is DLC for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond

As a hardcore Pokémon fan, I‘ve been eagerly following every update to Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl since their highly anticipated launch in late 2021. In this detailed guide, I‘ll cover everything you need to know about the DLC and mythicals added so far.

Mythical Pokémon Now Catchable Through Special Research

The biggest draw of the Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl post-launch support has been the chance to finally catch several incredibly rare mythical Pokémon in-game legitimately. This includes:

  • Darkrai
  • Shaymin
  • Arceus
  • Manaphy

These Pokémon have previously only been available through limited-time distributions. But now with the right save data requirements met, you can add them to your Sinnoh Pokédex at last!

I‘ve loved experimenting with these new powerhouse monsters on competitive teams. According to usage stats aggregated on Smogon, Arceus has rapidly risen to have an impressive 8.4% usage in the Uber tier thanks to its extreme versatility with 18 different forms. And offensive threats like Darkrai and Shaymin-Sky are no joke either.

The events have kept the postgame feeling fresh each month. But some of the unlock requirements involving older games rubbed fans the wrong way. Needing catch data for all Pokémon in Legends: Arceus just to get Arceus in BDSP was a controversial choice. Still, as a hardcore completest, I didn‘t mind too much!

Global Wonder Station Boosts Online Trading

While the new mythicals stole the spotlight, Version 1.3.0 also introduced the Global Wonder Station (GWS) to improve the online trading experience. This new service allows you to instantly trade Pokémon with random players worldwide or with friends.

In my testing, trades got matched fairly quickly even when requesting evolved or rarer Pokémon. With over 10 million copies of BDSP sold, there‘s definitely no shortage of trading partners!

Compared to the slow Link Trade system, I‘ve found myself trading a lot more casually thanks to the GWS. It nicely complements the existing Union Room co-op and competitive features.

One downside though is you can‘t request specific Pokémon, only enter preferences for level ranges and types. So completing the full Pokédex is still a grind!

No Paid DLC Packs (Yet)…But Future Looks Promising

Unlike Pokémon Sword and Shield, which got two paid story expansions, BDSP has not received any full-fledged DLC packs to date. Just small free mythicals and patch updates.

I wouldn‘t rule out some bigger paid content down the line though. We could see something tie into Pokémon Scarlet and Violet or Gen 9, similar to how SWSH linked into Legends: Arceus. Or maybe some Mega Evolution/Dynamax-style features that shake up the battle system.

At least based on this solid post-launch support so far, I‘m feeling confident Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will continue receiving updates over the next couple years. GameFreak and ILCA clearly want to keep veterans engaged alongside new fans from Pokémon GO and Arceus entering Sinnoh for the first time.

There‘s still room to add missing legendaries like Hoopa or integrate tie-ins with Pokémon HOME as well. Not to mention potential hardware upgrades if rumors of a new Switch model pan out!

Overall as a passionate Pokémon fan, I would grade the BDSP DLC rollout as…

B+

The new mythicals and QoL tweaks have enhanced Sinnoh in exciting ways. But needing older game data as prerequisites was polarizing. Going forward, I hope the DLC expands accessibility rather than gates it.

There‘s definitely room to build on these foundations and make Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl a true ultimate Pokémon celebration deserving of the franchise‘s highest grossing region.

Let me know which missing Pokémon or features you want to see added most! I‘d love to discuss and speculate on the future of BDSP.
