What 3PT Rating is Needed for 2K23?
As an avid NBA 2K gamer and content creator, one of the most common questions I get asked is: "What 3PT rating do I need to shoot consistently on 2K23?"
It‘s a great question, because your 3PT rating and badges have a huge impact on your ability to space the floor and hit shots from downtown.
Based on my experience and research, here is what I would recommend for effective 3PT shooting at various rating levels this year.
99-85 3PT Rating – Elite Shooting
If you can get your 3PT rating into the 85-99 range, you will be an elite shooter from three in 2K23. According to testing from 2KLabs, players with at least an 85 3PT rating shot over 50% green releases on open catch-and-shoot attempts.
At the top end with a 99 3 ball, you can expect to shoot at least 70% greens on open looks. And likely hit at a 55%+ clip in games.
So for competitive online players, I highly recommend trying to get into that 90+ range if possible. At lower levels you‘ll struggle to keep up with maxed out demigods.
84-75 3PT Rating – Good Shooting
In the 75-84 range for three point rating, you are still an effective shooter who can reliably knock down open looks.
As per 2KLabs tests, players with a 79 3PT shot greened around 45% on open catch and shoot jumpers. And were able to hit about 40% overall on wide open attempts.
So with proper timing you can definitely stretch the defense out to this three point line. I would consider 75-84 to be a "good" level for casual gaming. Just don‘t expect Steph Curry percentages at this tier.

74 and Below – Limited Shooting
Once you dip to 74 3PT rating and lower, you will begin to see a sharp decline in shooting ability. At this level you‘ll only green about 33% on open jumpers.
You can still knock down some catch-and-shoot shots with good timing. But off the dribble shooting will be extremely tough, along with contested looks.
For a guard or wing build I wouldn‘t recommend dropping below 75 if you want to have any spacing impact. And for competitive modes that require shooting, I think 85+ is truly needed this year.
