As you can see above, WQXGA+ at 3200 x 1800 pixels provides almost twice the resolution of 1440p, over 4 times more detail than 1080p, but still falls short of the pixel count of 4K.

WQXGA+: The Ideal Resolution for Gaming and Content Creation

In my experience as a gamer and content creator using displays up to 4K, WQXGA+ hits the sweet spot between performance and visual fidelity.

Compared to 1440p, the added resolution provides much crisper image quality, richer details, and more desktop real estate for productivity. Elements like text and UI scale better at this resolution compared to 27-32 inch 1440p displays.

However, WQXGA+ is still easier to drive at high frame rates than 4K for gaming. Using a RTX 3070 Ti GPU, I can run most modern titles at over 100 FPS on high-ultra settings at this resolution. In competitive esports titles like Valorant or Apex Legends, frame rates soar even higher.

For creative work like video editing or 3D modeling, the resolution gives me enough space to have multiple apps and windows open while having more pixels for finer details compared to 1440p. Export times are also faster than working in 4K.

According to Nvidia, the ideal GPU for WQXGA+ gaming is an RTX 3060 Ti or RTX 3070. AMD recommends a Radeon RX 6700 XT or better. This matches my first-hand testing of different graphics cards at this resolution.
