Diamond – The Rarest Face Shape

As a passionate gamer and creator immersed in virtual worlds, I‘m fascinated by the endless variety of avatars and character models out there. This got me curious – in the real world, are some face shapes rarer than others? After digging into the data, I discovered that the diamond face shape is widely regarded as the most uncommon.

Defining the Diamond Face

The diamond face shape is defined by facial width and bone structure. According to analyses, key features are:

  • Narrow forehead
  • Prominent cheekbones
  • Distinct jawline and narrow chin

This gives the face a tapered look, widest at the cheeks and narrowest at the brow and chin. It‘s been described as an inverted triangle or diamond silhouette.

How Rare is the Diamond Face?

Data suggests diamond-shaped faces occur in around 5% of the population. By comparison, oval faces (the most common shape) appear in around 60% of people. This makes the diamond silhouette much less prevalent.

There are a few reasons the diamond face is unusual:

  • It depends on a specific bone structure that not everyone has
  • The wide cheekbones stand out, which is rare
  • Most people have roundeder face shapes

So if you or your gaming avatar has a chiseled diamond look, it puts you in a pretty exclusive minority!

While diamond takes the top spot for rarest face shape, a few other uncommon types stand out:

Oval

The oval face is actually the most statistically common, appearing in 60% of people. However, true oval shapes with uniform width and symmetrical dimensions are rarer, making up around 14%.

Triangle

Like the diamond shape, triangle or "pear" faces with wide jaws and narrow foreheads make up around 5% of people.

Square

Truly angular, sharp-angled square faces are also less common at under 10%. They stand out from more rounded square shapes.

There are a few key factors that determine how rare or common a face shape is in humans:

Genetics

Our DNA and ethnicity plays a major role. Certain facial features and bone structures are tied to genetic lines and geographic ancestry. This impacts prevalence.

Gender

Some shapes are rarer in men vs women. For example, diamond shapes appear in only around 2% of males but 7% of females based on research.

Environment

Elements like diet, climate, altitude and more can influence bone growth. This shapes facial symmetry and ratios over generations.

After analyzing today‘s cutting edge avatar customization tech, I realized how unique diamond-shaped faces are in real people too. The data shows this tapered silhouette is seen much less frequently than oval or round shapes in the population. So if you have a narrow jaw and wide cheekbones, rock your rare bone structure with confidence!

Now I‘m curious if we‘ll see more uncommon faces rise in popularity in games and metaverses over time. For now, I‘ll get back to creating my latest YouTube tutorial on perfecting diamond face presets. Let me know if you have any other questions about facial shapes or character creation!
