The Best Lego Games for 4 Player Couch Co-op in 2024

As an avid Lego gamer and content creator, one of my most frequent questions is: which Lego video games allow for full 4 player local co-op multiplayer? After thorough research and hands-on playtime, I‘ve determined the clear winners – Lego Indiana Jones and Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2. Keep reading for the juicy details!

Lego Indiana Jones is Built for 4 Player Fun

Out of all the Lego games I‘ve played, 2008‘s Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures still reigns supreme when it comes to quad-player game nights. Every level across the game‘s three film-themed chapters can be played with up to four people in drop-in/drop-out co-op.

During both puzzle solving and action sequences, having four players utilize Indy and friends‘ unique skills is an absolute blast:

- Indy‘s whip for swinging across chasms
- Satipo digging for hidden Lego bricks
- Henry Jones lifting heavy objects

In an interview with Eurogamer, developer Traveller‘s Tales said "It was a real challenge making a Lego game for more than two players – but we pulled it off." I agree 100%!

Traveller‘s Tales implemented a seamless split screen system that dynamically focuses the camera on key characters during missions. This keeps the gameplay smooth and avoids an overly cramped feeling when four Legion of Doom henchmen fill up the screen. Well done!

Here‘s a quick video showcasing three players stomping through The Lost Temple chapter:

If Xbox achievements reveal anything, only 23.5% of Lego Indiana Jones players unlocked the "It Belongs in a Museum! – Complete Story Mode in Co-Op" trophy. I encourage any gamer friends to fully utilize Indy‘s best co-op offering and snag that achievement themselves!

Lego Marvel 2 Packs Surprising 4 Player Content

2017‘s Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 doesn‘t advertise it outright, but digging deeper reveals a great 4 person versus mode for mini-game mayhem. Up to four can battle head-to-head in modes like Collect the Infinity Stones, Capture the Flag, and more. There‘s even a fun Carbonite Hiest mission inspired by Empire Strikes Back (see 0:55 mark of trailer):

While not a full co-op experience like Lego Indiana Jones, I had an absolute blast competing against friends and family as favourite superheroes like Spider-Man, Hulk, Captain Marvel, and Venom. The game keeps things balanced by randomizing combat modifiers in each round.

Getting the whole gang together for this under-the-radar 4 player mode unlocks the coveted "Embiggened" trophy as well!

The Rest Only Allow 2 Players Locally

Now, this may be disappointing if you‘re hoping to have double the recommended Lego fun. But the majority of Lego video games unfortunately max out at 2 player local co-op and multiplayer.

Here‘s a handy table outlining the other Lego games‘ couch play potential:

Lego Game TitleLocal Players Supported
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga2
Lego Harry Potter (Years 1-4 & 5-7)2
Lego The Hobbit2
Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham2
Lego Worlds2
Lego Ninjago Movie Game2

Some offer online multiplayer with up to four players like Lego Worlds. But for games clearly designed around solo and co-op couch play, limiting the experience to two local players feels a bit restrictive.

Hopefully the wild success of Skywalker Saga inspires Traveller‘s Tales to include four Joy-Con wielding Padawans battling Sith Lords in the next Lego Star Wars game! A guy can dream for the future…

If blasting blocks and stealing treasure with 2-4 player crews sounds like your idea of gaming nirvana, be sure to snag copies of Lego Indiana Jones and Lego Marvel Super Heroes 2 for your platform of choice. Just be prepared for potential friendships to end when everyone fights over controlling Captain America!
