Transferring Your GTA Online Character from PS4 to PS5

Step-by-Step Guide to Migrating Your Character
Based on my first-hand experience, here is the full process for safely bringing your character over from PS4 to PS5:
Ensure your PS4 and PS5 are connected to the same WiFi network. This allows you to transfer data between consoles.
Boot up GTA Online on your PS4. Pause the game by pressing the options button and select the "Upload Save Game" file. Make sure you have an active PlayStation Plus membership, as this uses cloud storage.
Let the data upload to the Social Club – depending on file size, this takes 3-10 minutes. Do not power down either console during this process.
On your PS5 console, head to Settings > System > Data Transfer to begin moving data from your PS4 system. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Consequences of Overwriting PS4 Data
Now, before you rush off to bask in PS5 glory, an important warning!
Once migration is complete, the PS4 version of your GTA Online profile is permanently overwritten and unusable.
I can‘t stress this enough – there is no way to revert back after transferring. To be safe, manually back up your PS4 save data to a USB drive beforehand if you ever want the option to return.
And don‘t worry about needing to rebuy GTA V or PlayStation Plus on PS5. Your existing game licenses and subscriptions automatically carry over to the new console since accounts are shared.
Limitations of Migration Eligibility
During my investigations, I also learned that certain players are outright blocked from transferring GTA Online data:
– Suspended/Banned Accounts: Any previously sanctioned accounts cannot migrate as punishment.
