When can you leave Iki Island?

You must complete all main story missions on Iki Island before gaining the ability to fast travel back to Tsushima. This means finishing "The Eagle" tale and its final quest "From the Darkness."

Length of Iki Island Campaign

The critical path through Iki Island takes around 5 hours complete. For full completion including all side tales, activities, and collectibles, expect a lengthier 10-15 hours.

Main Story5 hours
Completionist Run15 hours

So the Iki Island expansion‘s length clocks in at about 30% the size of Ghost of Tsushima‘s base game.

Recommended Power Levels

Developer Sucker Punch recommends taking on Iki Island only after reaching at least power level 60-70 in the main Tsushima storyline, when Jin has unlocked a healthy selection of stances, techniques, and ghost tools.

Enemies on Iki range from power level 75 up past 100 for late game foes. Attempting the expansion at too low a level risks painful deaths.

Helpful Gear for Iki Island‘s Threats

Many of Tsushima‘s armor sets carry over perfectly fine for the deadly threats awaiting on Iki. But a few solid choices to deal with the eagle tribe warriors:

  • Sakai Clan Armor – Increases resolve gains to power healing and special attacks
  • Gosaku‘s Armor – Highly armored suit to withstand heavy attacks
  • Sarugami Armor – Perfect for parrying combos against aggressive swordsmen

The Journey into the Past

Iki Island‘s story opens with "Journey into the Past" upon first traveling there. Jin investigates rumors about his father‘s visit years ago seeking an armorer named Tadayori.

After the emotional reunion with old friends, several tales unfold…

Main Missions

  • Honor Buried Deep
  • The Watchers in Izuhara
  • A Message in Fire
  • The Branded
  • The Eagle
  • From the Darkness

Completing that final quest allows fast traveling off Iki Island back to Tsushima.

Activities Beyond the Main Story

Iki Island may be smaller than Tsushima but comes packed with plenty to occupy your time:

  • 7 multi-part Tales of Iki side quests
  • 9 animal sanctuaries to establish
  • 5 bamboo strike minigames
  • Hot springs to locate
  • New trophy collections
  • Vanity gear to discover
  • Records documenting past events

So while rushing the critical path takes under 6 hours, spending time on Iki Island‘s other attractions can easily stretch playtime over 15 hours.

Parting Thoughts

Iki Island makes a captivating addition to Ghost of Tsushima with its mysterious backstory connections, fresh environments rife with activities, and challenging combat against the fearsome raiders.

But that core emotional arc tackling Jin‘s past makes it a meaningful epilogue best experienced after first completing the main Tsushima campaign. Just don‘t expect to quickly fast travel off the island until those end credits roll!
