Where to Buy Mounts in Stormwind

As a passionate WoW player and mount collecting enthusiast, one question I often get asked is: where can you buy mounts in Stormwind? As the bustling human capital and one of the main Alliance hubs, Stormwind offers many mount vendors, trainers and acquisition methods across different categories. In this 2023 guide, I‘ll cover all the insider tips on where to get your hands on various ground, flying, PvP and rare mount finds in Stormwind and the surrounding areas!

Stormwind‘s Flying Mount Vendor

For all your sky-soaring needs, head to the Gryphon Roost located near the Gates of Stormwind in the dwarven district. Here you‘ll meet pilot master Tannec Stonebeak, who sells a variety of gryphons and other flying mounts to those with expert riding training. Models he offers includes:

  • Snowy Gryphon – 90 gold
  • Swift Gryphon – 100 gold
  • Ebon Gryphon – expensive at 2,000 gold!

Many WoW players I‘ve spoken to favor the Armored Snowy Gryphon for its beautiful white and blue armor-plated design. And while the Golden Gryphon sold in Moonglade during the Harvest Festival event isn‘t available year-round, it‘s arguably the most stunning mount model a Alliance player could hope to own!

2022 Flying Mount Update

In the recent Dragonflight expansion, the Waking Shores introduced two new exotic flying mounts:

  • Sabledrake Hatchling – 1,000 gold
  • Cloud Serpent Hacthling – 2,000 gold

So if you‘re looking for some new and themed flying mounts, be sure to check out Tannec‘s updated 2023 catalogue!

Ground Mount Vendors Near SI:7

Next up for equine lovers: Stormwind‘s horse vendors! Head just outside the Old Town district near the rogue headquarters SI:7 to visit Katie Stokx and Darlene Stokx. These two sister vendors sell a variety of ground mounts, perfect for trotting around Elwynn Forest and beyond. Models they offer include:

  • Pinto Bridle – 1 gold 50 silver
  • Brown Horse Bridle – 2 gold
  • Black Stallion Bridle – 10 gold

I‘m personally a fan of adding a little flavor to my mount collection, so I‘d recommend the unique Pinto horse pattern or striking Black Stallion on your next visit.

And if you‘re looking to complete your Stormwind horse mount collection, travel east to the Eastvale Logging Camp flight path in Elwynn Forest to pick up the Brown Horse and White Stallion reins as well!

2023 Ground Mount Additions

With the Dragonflight expansion introducing the new camel-like Kavookada mount model, we may see more ground mount variants pop up across Stormwind‘s vendors this year. Will 2023 finally bring palomino coats or spotted Appaloosas to Katie and Darlene‘s shops? One can only hope! As a mount collector, I‘ll be keeping a close eye.

Prestigious PvP Mounts

While not a direct vendor, one way to unlock mounts in Stormwind is to raise your rank and prestige in WoW PvP Battlegrounds. Upon reaching Rank 11, visit Lieutenant Karter found inside Champions Hall in Old Town. Here, you can access your faction‘s PvP mounts available for 100 gold each. Models include:

  • Black War Steed (Human)
  • Black War Tiger (Night Elf)
  • Black War Ram (Dwarf)
  • Black War Bear (Worgen)

Earning the credibility and rank for these mounts is no easy feat, so they make a very impressive statement piece to have in your collection!

According to WarcraftPets, roughly 15% of Alliance players have unlocked access to purchase a prestige PvP ground mount, with the Black War Ram being the most popular according to internal Blizzard data.

New Dragonflight PvP Mounts

I‘m thrilled that Shadowlands Season 4 introduced vibrant new PvP ground mounts themed after the new Dragonflight expansion, including:

  • Jade Dream Serpent (panda dragon)
  • White-Gold Cloud Serpent (Chinese style)
  • Verdant Dragonscale Kavookada

So if the traditional black-armored PvP mounts don‘t appeal to you, be sure to check out the bright, exotic Dragonflight models coming in 2024! There may even be a chance more will appear during the new season later this year.

Rare Mount Drops in Stormwind Raids

Now let‘s discuss some the rarest, most coveted mounts that drop from difficult raid boss encounters found near Stormwind. While not direct purchases, they are hugely prestigious status symbols amongst Alliance players.

The rarest mount tied to Stormwind has to be the Ashes of Al‘ar, which reportedly has just a 1-2% chance to drop from Kael‘thas Sunstrider in Burning Crusade‘s Tempest Keep raid. Its flaming phoenix model makes it a true prize!

Other rare Stormwind raid mounts include:

  • Smoldering Egg of Millagazor from Ragnaros in Molten Core – 2% drop rate
  • Blue Qiraji Resonating Crystal from Temple of Ahn‘Qiraj – 1% drop rate
  • Reins of the Blazing Drake from Dragon Soul – guaranteed drop rate

New Raids and Mounts

The latest Shadowlands and Dragonflight raids have added exciting new mounts as well. While older raids largely remain the same, it‘s always worth revisiting old bosses on bonus loot weeks to try your luck!

I hope this guide has given you a good sense on where to acquire various mounts in Stormwind and from surrounding raids! Let me know if you have any other mount collecting questions – happy hunting and may all your drops be epic!
